East Branch Lake

I hope I did this right. Just passing along some pictures of East Branch Lake that I took yesterday. Boat launch is out of water and they are still dropping the water level to try and find the leak.

Here's one of Instanter launch, or what's left of it. The old foundations of the old logging town are out of the water again!

Nice Pictures! Man I need to take a trip up and get the camera out and the GPS and plot some spots. I've been up there when it's drawed down before but it looks like it's really down.

Directly behind the telephone pole in pic #1 is my families summer home that my great grandfather built in the early 60's.  The guy on the rock is probably my brother tossing topwater for smallies.  He has been doing very well from shore.  The entire ecosystem has changed since the drawdown.

The Corps of Eng. will let you carry a kayak or canoe to the water, but trust me, you better be in good shape. It's a long way down the ramps. No motorboats at all! Water is extremely low now. I'll try to get over there on the weekend and take some more pics. I've seen a pic of Instanter launch taken last Sunday. Water is completely out of the picture!

Army Corp of Eng. are modifying intakes on the tower. They said that the water is still dropping to keep the river level up. One boat ramp should be open in 2009. If your interested, there will be an information meeting at the Johnsonburg High School, Oct 15, at 7:00 P.M.

My bro caught a nice bow on a rap. A lot of color on that one.

I was a little cool by the time I got out of the water. Missed several other fish. The caddis were rising the whole time we were there.
Had to go to size 20 before they would take my dry.

Was at camp this weekend.  Cant believe how low this lake is.  Saw a rock that had a carving in it and it was dated 1905.  A guy told us he found one toward the middle of the lake that was dated 1885.  Girl who works for the corpss of engineers says the lake will be like this for about another 3-4 years.  Meetin this wednesday.  Caught a few at the outflow that was it.

Bunched at the bottom of the lake i would think.  At normal level I believe the middle of the lake has a depth of around 150ft deep.  I would think the fishing would be pretty good?

Talked with some young people last Sun. who were fishing from kayaks at the breast. They said they caught a few bass and one small walleye across from the parking lot. I'd like to take a depth finder out to the middle and measure. Bet it's under 100ft.! Army Corps of Eng. worker told me that they will have enough water for one launch by next spring. He said they are discussing extending the old ramp a few feet too. I didn't make it to the info meeting last week. Anybody hear anything?

This is supposed to be the final water level for the year. Pics were taken on Sun., Oct26,2008

If you can see the two young fellows at the bottom of the ramp, they are about to carry a 14ft. aluminum boat up the hill. Must be nice to be young! They said that they caught a pile of walleye on split Rapala's near the breast. These are the same kids that found a dead 51" musky a few weeks ago. I saw the pic. Awesome fish!
