Boy would that be nice but we need a gusher to blow them out. Many down trees and stuff in the way on 20 mile. Plus last time I was at the mouth of 20 there was no mouth at all. We need all the rain we can get before they will make any kind of run. Cooler temps and rain will bring more just outside of the mouths.

It was like that a couple times in the '90s. The one year they couldn't even make it to the rt 5 tubes. (might be the year you're talking about, K-Killer) Not only was there a trickle of water, but a large tree was down just below the rt5 tubes they couldn't get past. The creek temp was in the 70s and fish still came and continued to stack on top of one another Rain doesn't effect the run as much as many think. (as long as there is enough water at the mouth to come in) Rain, (rather creek levels), effect their movement up-stream more than anything ..L.T.A.

This rain is much needed I don't know if it will do much though. I'm waiting to see what Ike does... last I heard it was a cat 4 and isn't far behind Hanna. There's another one behind Ike also way out in the Atlantic. The rain and steel will all come.

Rain is one factor, but there are others like water temp. The average day time air temperatures this week have been in the 80's and in the 50's during the night. Given the low water in the creeks right now I would guess the water temp in the creeks would be at the lowest barely into the high 50's. This is still a bit too warm for the steelies. I would think some will come up, but as for a huge run, I think we are still about a month out for that. We need cooler temperatures along with the water. Another consideration is the length of day. The shorter days also play a role. If you put it all together, good water flow, cooler water temperatures and shorter days, I would anticipate a good run to come in late September to early October. Of course, as with trying to predict anything associated with steelies, they are going to do what they do.... Just when you think you have them figured out they show you something different. If you come up, good luck and hopefully you will find some fish.

ORIGINAL: creel Hi Larry, long time no read. John yea, it's been awhile, John. It's good to be back. Hopefully we can wet a line together this year. I hardly fished last year due to schedule or weather. Don't think I made more than a dozen trips up My "plans" are to change that this year and get back to my "regular" pattern ..L.T.A.

the forecast for erie is better looking every day. there isn't one day above 75 scheduled, and most of the days are in the 60's.

Without a doubt. They will come in when they are ready. Looking forward to the first trip of the year Oct. 16.
