ice season

Talk all the steelie fishing you want...... 4 more months and it's ice season.  Hurry up ICE SEASON.

    First sign of snow and I am headed south.
    Hope to get to NC Coast or Myrtle Beach before the pompano and spots go south.
    December most of the fish I catch are small sharks and skates off the piers.

    Weather permitting I might go out on Kinzua around Christmas.

    I can't wait for ice either Chauncy. I fish with Marshall (the Mississippi transplant) sometimes on Shenango. I enjoy reading your posts on here. Ice fishing is about all I get to do anymore. Other than the yearly Canada trip.       Icecube

      Ice fishing gets in your blood! I love fishing anytime, but under the ice is special. Also I have learned a lot watching how fish react under the ice. My son and I had a good lesson last year under the ice on Misery Bay. Without a camera you would have thought there were no fish around. However there was a steady stream of gills, crappy, bass, and to a lesser extent pike and steallhead passing by. Some fish would look, and we changed bait and the bite was slow, and we could only get the little ones to bite. It was the same with the others fishing. Without the camera I would have never beleaved there was anything down there. Watching with a camera has really educated me as to how many fish are down there and to the fact that its true sometimes they just arent bitting. By the way Chauncy I still havent bought a Flasher. Also still looking for a 2 man flipover.

    Watched ice fishing this morning on versus.  Crappie and perch, then whitefish.  I'm goin crazy waiting for archery season let alone ice fishing.  The camera is a great tool for the ice season.  It shows the fishes mood, how they react to baits, sizes, colors, how tight to cover they are and most importantly if the fish are down there.  Fish TV by nature vision is the best 100 bucks I have ever spent and would recommend them to anybody.  Aqu-vu cameras are good too.  My next investment hopefully is a 2 man "flip over" shanty.

      I have a Frabill Cub 2 man that I like and a Clam 6800 that is so big I have never used it. I bought the 6800 on Ebay and had ~ $200 in it including gas, but not my time driving to Cinncinatti Oh. I guess if my boy and I ever get a group together to go I'll take it. A great piece of equipment that I have is my Buddy Heater, what a great heater. I need to make a rack to cook on in front of burner.
      The last couple of years have been real teasers in that we had that great early start ice only to have it melt away and get late winter ice. I bought a gas auger a few winters ago when we had 20+ inches of ice. I guess I shouldn't complain I can remember years with no good ice.

    How much longer do we have to wait for ice? I'm almost ready to drill a hole in my deep freezer.

    Patience my son, patience!!! Actually I got a little excited myself after reading the "Farmer's Almanac" report the other day. We're getting closer, but first bring on the "Steelhead." Don't eat them, but sure do like catching them.   Lou

    I hear that I almost took the auger out and drilled a hole in the bottom of the flatbottom boat this week.
