Fished Today, Wednesday, played hooky from work and had a great day.  The Bass have finally turned on and there are still pleanty of Trout feeding to make for some fabulous fishing.  I figured the storms might make the river un-fishable this weekend so I went today.  Caught Trout, Sauger, Walleye, Smallmouth and Rockbass today.

There are some nice muskies in the Yough.  There are pike but not as plentiful as the musky population is.

A couple of weeks ago, we watch a musky come up and bit in half a sucker my buddy was reeling in....lol...he almost got pulled in.

Hope that answers your question.

Pete,

It is where you think it is, now he wasn't fishing for suckers, he just happened to catch it by accident! He hates catching suckers, but I told him they are great tasting when smoked, he gave me that "are you crazy" looks....lol

I'm new here.  Long time large mouth fisherman in lakes, but never fished the rivers, let alone for smallies or trout.

I live near Smithton Hole and West Newton, so this is where I'm going to start trying my hand at wading the river.

I'm currently ultralight 5' to 6' rods, 4lb test.

Any help/guidance you guys can throw my way would be appreciated.  Equipment? Lures?  Techniques?  I'll be fishing in the evenings after work.

Looking forward to trying it out next week if the river goes down and clears up.

I haven't gone to the river to check this weekend, but I'm assuming since all the creeks and lakes are still high and muddy, yes.

Just fished the yough last night by the Sutersville bridge. I got skunked, water is still up and the current is moving pretty good, still just a little stained. Packed up about a half hour of messing around. Shot out to Indian Lake in North Versailles. Same thing there minus the current, water is stained, couldnt catch a cold. Flipped a white spinnerbait around to try to entice a bass

Just fished Cedar Creek area. Still about 1 foot visibility and moving fast and a bit too high for the normal wade. Managed one 5 inch Smallie....only bite in 3 hours....

Took a canoe out of Youghiogheny outfitters to Whitsett today. Water was A little high, and stained. Landed 2 trout 17'' and 12'' rainbows and about a dozen bass, not a bad day but my expectations were a little higher. Usually do pretty good through that stretch of river.

I just got back from the Yough. Only landed one fish, a 25" pike. Waiting for the water to drop a little more, then hit the smallmouth.
