There will be some early fish in the streams, mainly in the mornings starting late August. All depends on the water level and water temperature. I think the lake water is at 70 something right now, way too warm for the steelies, but we have had quite a bit of rain this summer so the creek levels should be good.

If you are planning to make the trip up and want to have good numbers of fish, I would say hold off to October or November. If you want to come and fish around the mouths of the creeks for the first few fish, any time starting in late August or early September would be fine. No guarantees on large numbers of fish, but there should be a few around.

they will run as soon as they climb out of the water by their pectoral fins,grow legs stand upright and look like the man 3rd to the left on the eveloution chart!! lol soon i hope 20+years chasin steel and i still get excited lol

Its so addicting I cant wait to get there. I definately agree with Bughawk there will be some fish early September ,but it will get better later in the year. But it all depends on temp and the water levels. FISH ON!!!!!

I walked up to Manchester along the crick and only seen a little baitfish. I fished it last summer hoping to latch-on to a monster bass only to get skunked. That part of the stream looks lifeless at this time of year. I wanted to wade Elk yesterday but my son pooped out on me. He said it looked too muddy (it did) and he didn't want to wade. Here is a pic of Elk with leaves.

they allready are .very.very.very.very slowly .but there here in small number's. i would wait till mid sept. there would be more fish.

Ehh, give me a cold day in december or january when the snow provides a white blanket and keeps the crowds away.
But of course, I won't be able to resist, so I'll start fishing for them in sept...I'm a sucker for the steelie.
