Status: offline 		Starting Oct. 15th cleats must be used on the Salmon River," I think" But I use sheetmetal screws in my boots. Does that count?

Status: offline 		I think the cleat requirement is only for the DSR, not the river as a whole.  And, yes, I would think that screws would meet the standard.

Status: offline 		It is required I believe & even if it isn't they're highly recommended. Yes- sheet metal screws count & work just fine.

Status: offline 		They are always required at the DSR, they changed this a few years ago. Used to be Nov. 1st. There is no requirement on the rest of the Salmon River.

Like tippy-toe said, you should always wear them. I wear them in all flows, even 185cfs. Early in the season, when there is a lot of algae growth on the rocks, they are as slippery as ice.

Status: offline 		WHats wrong with felts? I dont seem to have any problrms with them. HOw do u use sheet metal screws? I have a spiderman web slinger so if i go in I can just fling my rest and wham I am out.

Status: offline 		I use 3/4" #10 sheet metal screws. Two weeks ago I had on felt and a few times I was doing River Dance on some slim rocks. Live and learn.

Status: offline 		Just as a heads up we should get use to wearing them. The new book of regs goes into talking about how things are being spred from different streams and rivers and they think it has something to do with us the fisherman so stand by the day might come when you can no longer wear felt bottom books

Status: offline 		I too tried the sheet metal screws as stud replacements on my Chota's. They work pretty decently but tend to wear quickly. I've found that motorcycle ice racing screws are harder so they hold up better. Also the heads are a bit taller than standard sheet metal screws, and they have a nicer cut to them that really seems to grab the rocks well.
Check with your local motorcycle shops to order them. I got a box of 250 for about $20 that'll likely last me for many years.
