how many fish do they normally stock in the area streams in alleghany county? Been fishing montour run from hookstown road all the way to brothers grim and only 1 trout. I find it hard to beleive that all the trout are gone. i seen a couple bigger fish but not much swimming around or bitting. i was using white, yellow and a greenish colored spinners panther martin and rooster tails. I am almost thinking i need some worms. any suggestions?

Not sure about Montour, but Pine and Deer don't get as many fish in the fall as they do in the Spring. I want to say they each got between 3-500 fish in their DH sections, back when the PFBC commission used to post the numbers of trout stocked per stream/section. That was probably close to 5 years ago also, I wouldn't be surprised if it is even less now

Yea i remember when the PFBC commis used to post there "totals" when they stocked, i kinda liked that when they did that as it gave the anglers a general idea of how many were stocked (whether it was a decent amount or a small amount) "BUT" at the same token, it gave the guys who come down & fish out all the holes also a general idea & where to target as well, so kinda glad on one hand they stopped posting "stock amounts".

yea that makes sense, i am just looking to catch and release these little trout and get out of the house for a little while. I figured it wasnt many trout that was put in there. I looked on NYs DEC page and they still show fish amount and where, thought maybe PA did the same and i couldnt find it. Are pine or deer creek "old man" accessable? I want to get my grandfather into some trout and i am still unfamiliar with the area and easy spots to get him in.

AS far as both pine and deer there are some accessable points fo an older gentleman. Difficult to point out which areas are due to knowing what your grandfather's abilities are. Sound as though you are from west side so I would suggest Pine before deer due to distance. Begining point of DHALO is fairly accessable. 50 yard walk to first hole. One small steep section about 6 feet high. Deer does have a small park that would probably be easy to fish from. If you want real easy access try Deer lakes or go to racoon or hereford or cannonsburg. small lakes with some handycap accessable areas. All got fall stockings. Best of luck with it and hope he enjoys.

I hit the DHALO on Deer Creek the thursday after it was stocked and then the Sunday after it was stocked. Thursday was my first ever outing with a fly rod, and I was completly spoiled with both numbers of fish and size. I even caught an out of place 12-14 inch Brook Trout out of Deer in nice fall spawning colors, along with 6 chunky rainbows. I'll post a pic when I get a chance. On Sunday water was really low and clear. Was fishing one of the major holes for 10 min or so and had a 2 amatures procede to wade into the middle of the creek about 10 feet up from me(and where the fish were holding) and start casting down over my drift. Needless to say nobody around caught anything after that. One of the guys was actually holding a spinning reel upside down, and he told me as he was standing in the middle of the 2 ft deep creek that this is a good spot/where all the fish are while I can plainly see the 30 trout in the pool. I thanked him for spooking the fish and that he was holding his pole upside down then went to a different location.

there were some nice fish put into both streams,alot in the 16" range,the raceways were emptied,As far as Pine goes you can go above the DHALO area up to the next bridge,it was stocked from the bridge down.Plenty of fish,and you can use whatever you want to fish with,not in the DHALO area.Pine also got more than 500.

thanks guys i am gonna try to get grandpa out tomorrow. ill let you know how i do. maybe well head over to racoon lake. or pine creek.

The tough thing about montour run is that the place turns into a zoo after it gets stocked, and people are literally bombing the fish with everything they have. I'm surprised that those fish don't get ptsd.

A nice place that is no secret is the second trestle. There is a nice hole directly beneath the trestle and and a big tangle of deadfall that always holds some biguns.

There are a bunch of other places through-out too. I was there about a month ago catching bass, red breasted sunfish, and trout on the same fly. All of the paths are well worn and stable.

is the 2nd trestle the one with the zip line/cable going over the water and the ropes in the trees? If so i pulled a little 12" brown trout out of there and saw 3 bigger trout say about 15 inches long...no takers. I have been down there several times since about a week after they stocked and nothing much has happend for me. I seen a bunch swimming near brothers grim but they were not around sunday evening. I seen just about anything you could think of to use as bait down there..egg sacs, corn to worms and minows. didnt venture down past brothers grim but maybe next weekend

The fall stockings sure aren't what they used to be. Lower numbers and the focus seems to be on the Special Regs areas. The other streams seem to rely more on the local sportsman's clubs for fall stocking. I don't mind that, but it does increase the crowds on the special regs streams. If you're fishing Montour, I'm assuming you're somewhere near the Pitt Airport. Take a ride up to Neshannock and fish behind the fly shop, it's an easy walk, fly shop is right there and there's even a restaurant where you can take Grandpa for lunch. There's a good bit of water that's pretty accessable right from the parking lot. Right up 60 to 208, right into Volant, turn into the parking lot by the Mill. Easy peasy.

cool ill try that this sunday afternoon. and yes i do live near the airport. I went to pine creek near the old train bridge, saw a dead trout on the bottom, and it looked like 2 or 3 bigger fish carp/sheephead, then saw 2 little baby fish that looked like sheephead. There was 2 younger guys fishing using worms under the bridge and left and 2 more came with a fly rod and using some sort of bait. noone seemed to be on to any fish. We went down the road a bit to a parking area the water was a little deeper, took a few cast but nothing bit.

Heading down to DHAFLO on Deer Creek this evening. Haven't been able to get a day off from work. Figured I'd enjoy the beautiful fall day and some of the flies I've been tying up.

I fished Pine creek DH on monday, there is some fish in there and they are spread out but they didnt want to bite. In the evening they were rising all over. I think it was to low and clear, right before the sun went down we hooked a few. Some rain would be nice

Nice evening out. Only caught one, missed a few others. The one I caught was on a size 12 pink glo bug. Missed a few others on a size 16 white glo bug. No one out. Water extremely low and clear, seen very few fish. Probably hold out til maybe after the weekend since we are supposed to pick up a lilttle rain.

i have been fishing the dhalo section of deer creek quite often this fall. start at the parking lot right on campbell road and stop usually behind the winery. been doing really well too.. crystal bugers below the water and size 16 drakes above have been the ticket there for me.
