I haven't been able to fish any mornings in a while.  I fished this evening and a couple times last week and saw a very small amount of midge activity, enough to get a few fish working.  My best action has been coming on small (#18-20) scuds fished above a red midge pupa (20-24).  Hope this helps a little, let us know how you do.

finnaly made it to camp last night & caught a few on nymphs& fished nymphs this morning & caught fish on trico nymphs & then a few
more on tricos but not a good hatch I think the wind had a lot to
do with it,  but they are still hatching

Dave,
I hope you don't thnink this is stupid coming from an Old F@rt like me but what the heck is a trico.  Even though I've fly fished for about 50 years I've never studied flies much beyond about 10 types.  Other than that its:  A tiny black bug, or a tiny brown bug, or something that looks like a lint ball.  Seriously!

I never liked small flies, but learned to love this hatch.  The best fishing is the spinner fall which happens early morning from about 700 AM until about 1030 AM.  The spinners gather over riffles in huge swarms.

For a little bug, they have an oversized clear wing that reflects the low angle light so well, it is hard to miss the swarm.  Go downstream of the swarm to the first run and pool below the riffles and wait for the water to start boiling.  The females fall first and have a light olive body.

The males are next and have a black body.

Surprisingly large trout rise for these spinners.

Thanks Mack,
Those are the tiny, big winged, pale yellow flies and the tiny black flies that I tried to match for years.  Never knew their names.  I probably have 10 hopper patterns in my box and to me they are all hoppers.  Same with muddlers and variations of the ant and coachman.  Don't even get me started on nymphs;  they come in black, brown, and grey and large med. and small.  See; my knowledge is extensive!  LOL!

I fish 6x for dries in the 18-24 range almost always.  I have only fished the tricos once this year and the actuals were more like 26-28's and I fished 22's with decent success.  Over the past few weeks I have run into some decent ginger midges hatching in the afternoons, same story, the actuals were about a 28 and I fished 22's and did pretty well.  Even though I am young there are 2 things i won't mess with; anything lighter than 6x tippet and any fly smaller than a 24.

I have a real problem tying a 20- 24 fly on. When I go smaller tippet I lose the fly on my cast.
I,ll have to stick to 16-18 flies I guess. lol

I fished spring creek on Saturday. Didn't see many trico spinners, but it was enough to bring a bunch to the surface.
