I've seen posts on here about shawnee state park in the past, but it's worth harping on.  Anyone who cares about fishing at all needs to hammer the PFBC about this place and what in the world happened.  I have and will continue to do so.  It seemed to become the test mouse will all the crap they would dump in to kill the weeds and replacing it with unecessary synthetic structure, all the waste of some sort flowing into the lake (supposedly) that was overlooked, all the geese that were so precious and then hurt the water with their poop, and the stocking of those completely worthless shad.  A lake once overrun with an incredible population of big bass, giant freakish musky, nice sized panfish, and enough walleye to keep you satisfied is now loaded with shad, carp, and small bullheads.  Not to mention brown, stinky water.  The fisherman are suffering and I feel sorry for the mom and pop stores and the bait shops in that area that the lake once brought business to.  One more thing, more like a joke, some half wit bass tournaments were trying to revive the lake a few years ago when it was on its way downhill.  If anything, that's a way to bury it for good.

Well you missed out on some of the best fishing in this area for at least the first 20 years of that. The pfbc is too worried about running trucks with half dead rainbows to half filled creeks in june to have time to see whats wrong with that place. Once again they are dropping the ball big time and they don't seem to mind. This article I read is about the third one where they admit they have no idea whats wrong with the place. Maybe its time to bring in an outside party to figure it out for them? Just like with hunting,,forget the oppinions of the hunters(fisherman), the butcher shops(baitshops), and taxidermists and send out some guy three different times to test the water. If that was a trout stream they would have everything and everybody they could working on it day and night,,,,sad.

Im not familiar with this area at all but still this saddens me quite a bit. There are very few places anymore that produce such a variety of species at such a high rate. I agree whole heartedly that there should be more focus on such waters, and that the pfbc needs to pay more attention to these problems. Spend as much time on these lakes as they do on trout streams and maybe we wouldnt have to worry about this stuff anymore.

There has been around 278 hits at this thread.  Let's us round-about 1,000 overall counting the other threads about this place.  If we had a dismal rate of 1 of 10 email or call the PFBC about this, it would still be 100 more than they had before.  This is not your typical complaint about trout season or how many are stocked, or the amish keeping too many little crappie, this is the real deal and it ruined a great fishery.  A fishery that could make an addict out of a kid for life.  If you don't know of this place, just remember I would question them about a place I never heard of if you were concerned.  I know of some lame excuses they are giving the tribune democrat newspaper in Johnstown to shut everybody up, but let's get serious and let's get some answers on this disgrace.

DanesDad,,,starting around 2002-2003 the lake took a downword spiral. It started with the weeds all being killed or dying off, then the water started to turn brown and started smelling a bit. The fishing has been worse every year since. There are even people,me included,,,seeing dead fish laying around the bank. The lake has taken a total 180 degree turn, its very sad.
