things on here have gotten a bit stale recently...
Since summer is half-way gone, lets see what everyone has been up to...
river shots, sunsets, kids, animals, boats, flies/bait, non-fishing whatever your summer has been
and let us know a back story

ready set go...

a little trip to a MD tailwater... sub 60 water temps + slick rocks= me in the drink
this was the end of the day after i missed the same fish at least 4 times
i needed something to calm me down... so i turned around a took this pic and walked up stream

this guy is a wild man... he loves the summer, he will go outside alone for hours
there is an ongoing stand-off with a groundhog in the backyard
he flies out the back door full tilt and slams his head into the hole at the bottom of the shed

Summer started on a good note this year with some awesome smallmouth fishing on the Susquehanna up until the weekend after Memorial Day. There were big fish, and lots of them. On a 4 hour drift boat trip over 3-4 miles of river, we would land 20-30 fish each. Generally, they were mixed bags of smallmouth, walleye, and the occasional musky....

The trout fishing around Cortland, NY is phenominal. There are lots of fish, wild and stocked, from 2"-25"+. A brown trout over 20" is not uncommon on a fly. Landing 40 fish an evening on ants and beetles is the norm. 20' leaders, 6x tippet, and wading VERY slow is the key. If you are into float fishing, this is also the place. The best night so far this year is 5 browns over 20".  Some of these pics are from a cell phone....

Next up....Rome. I attended the EFTTEX (European Fishing Tackle Trade Exhibition) in mid June. As expected, Rome is a very old city full of ruins.  One thing that surprised me was how dirty they left the city. It was not very appealing, but was still a mind blowing experience, knowing that a couple thousand years ago, there were gladiators fighting exactly where I was standing. The highlight of the trip : hanging out with Chuck Liddell, Alex Karalexis, and a few other UFC fighters in the VIP room at one of the clubs. Those guys are down to earth, a blast to hang with, and easy to have a conversation despite being bombarded by fans.

Alex K. just before my tap-out

It's been fun, but I'm already itching to get on Lake Ontario at night for kings at the river mouths, and steelhead in the streams. Bring 'em on!

Hope you enjoyed,
Fisher

Great fish guys ,looks great. I have a few pics of my own but their all on my phone. Some flounder at Chincoteague, 19 in , just a keeper. I also go bass fishing in some private lakes where i just slam largemouth 5-6lbs. One did a taildance on the water when i was using a jitterbug. Great times when that happens. SEEYA STEELHEAD SEASON!

MGolf,

The East, West, and Main Branch of the Tioughnioga River.

They are easy to find and the East Branch flows under RT 81 just before the confluence with the West Branch.

The East and Main Branch become warm in the summer, but with a few springs, deep holes, and undercut banks, most of the BIG browns prefer the Main Branch downstream of the 81 overpass, and the smaller fish seek refuge in the West Branch.

Trout fishing on the West Branch can be had year round (with artificials), and the water temps remain in the 60's throughout the summer months. Anywhere you fish in the West Branch will hold trout until Fall. In the Fall, they move around to a few spawning grounds until they return to their wintering holes. They remain in the wintering holes until about Mid April when the Hendricksons start to hatch. The Hendricksons are a phenominal hatch on the stream and will bring all of the big trout to the surface.  Trout are only one of the many species. You can tangle with a few smallmouth, carp, and muskies but the Walleye and Pike fishing is too good to pass up. Yesterday on my lunch break, I managed a 25" eye right behind where I work. It's possible to catch 4 species in one hole. They 'eyes average 17", with fish over 20" very common. And depending where you fish, 30"+ pike are common.

If you get up this way and would like to try it, let me know.

Best,
Fisher

I would love to get some of those big browns on top.  Those are incredible fish.  Is that your driftboat?  Again, awesome stuff.

Golf,

Yeah. That is my drift boat in the back. It comes in handy for the hole where the big browns are at.

Saturday, the 25 1/2" male was taking Golden Drakes off the top in his normal holding spot. There's an undercut bank in about 4' of water, with low overhanging trees. He feels very secure in this spot and feeds heavily in the evenings. It's a good thing nobody fishes for trout there as he would be an easy target for a meat hunter. After catching him 4 times this year, I have no urge to do it again....but I did tie up a few mouse patterns that need tested

Best,
Mike

I haven't done much fishing over the summer, to much other crap going on...  Here's some pics of some fish I did catch over the past few weeks though.

I have video of a Sailfish I caught somewhere on my computer.  If I can figure out how to post it I'll dig it up.

Anyways...  Summer is alright, but these cool nights already have me thinking of fall weather... I'll be probing the Erie tribs for early steel here in two or three weeks.

O yes i'm pumped for it!  Nice pics of the all the hogs you caught!!  How much did the big walleye weigh?  I know they were guessing the weight and never read the post to see what it actually went..

On the boat it weighed 9.3 by the time we got in it was 8.14.
The musky bite should be happening soon!

we haven't been fishing since the weekend trout season opened.
the end of April we went to visit some friends who live in St. Marys

and saw some Elk

we didn't do much after that until the end of June
We lost our 12 year old chocolate lab quite suddenly, the pics of the labs here make me miss him even more than I have been already.

the day after he died we drove to VA Beach for a family vacation
we stayed on the Bay, this was the view from our balcony

King Neptune at the Beach

we saw a Heron when we went to the aquarium and took a boat ride through the marsh

We might have done some fishing if we had stayed for a whole week

we came home for 12 hours and then drove to Canada to visit our friends again, this time at their cottage in Canada

we sat on the dock taking in the scenery and drank canadian beer most of the time we were there.

other than that, my garden has been keeping me busy.

and I like taking pictures of things that live and bloom in my backyard
caterpillars of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly eating all of my parsley

a couple weeks ago, I was very busy making pickles

I found this guy living on my backporch. My boys insisted that I remove him, so now he's living somewhere in my garden

yes, it was wycoff run. there were some anglers downstream from us when we took those pictures.

I don't kill spiders, but my husband and my kids didn't like the idea of me letting him live on our porch
