My dad was up yesterday morning and the front seemed to have them shut down already.  He caught only 4.  Good luck and post a report of your success.  Good Luck.

Agreed about Sunday.  All of the anglers we talked to said that they seemed to have slowed down a bit.  That said, we kept 36 between three of us all between 11" and 15" (released a lot of shorts).  Live bait was the ticket, and buying strikes on artificials was difficult.  We fished Celery and a couple of coves that I do not know the names of, just picking 5-8 ft. brush piles and dropping in on them.  I do have a question though, does anyone ever catch good perch from the lake or are they all fingerlings like I seem to catch?

the only perch we ever caught were small as well, so I don't know. one of us did seem to pull in a real nice walleye, though, but of course had to release him and another boat caught a HUGE smallmouth. It was a preety good day but nothing like sat.

Was up on Sat and Sun both days were very slow.  Don't know what is going on this year.  Managed to leave with a small meals worth each day but had to work hard for them.

Fished both Saturday and Sunday as well.  Saturday was rough, but atleast I didn't get skunked.  No live bait so we split time between tossing jig/gulp and trolling for wipers out in the main lake.  Seen a alot of one fish, two fish groups but only a few schools in IIRC nearly always about 15 fow.  Seemed nearly every time I'd mark a school on the sonar, I'd get a crappie or two.  Popular trolling styles seemed 1/4 oz  Wally Divers and #9 TailDancers.  Nothing on the other usually reliable cranks.  Picked up a few more fish on 1/8 oz glow jig heads and 3" gulp minnows.  Nothing on curly tail grubs.  No wipers,  but I was able to catch the catfish I seem to be required to catch each trip out to add to the few crappies I picked up.  Eh I release 'em all anyways, it was just dang nice to finally get out and enjoy the sun and some time on the water.

I have only caught eyes trolling at shenango.  The key...SLOW.  Trolling crawler harnesses.  Having the blade spin slowly has been productive for me and my buddy.  Haven't tried trolling fast yet, just how we usually do.  We use an electric tollin motor (transome mount)  and keep it on a low setting.  I have heard of guys jiggin on drop offs and doin fairly well, but haven't tried that yet.  They too say that a slow presentation is best.  Got a few eyes last year.  Biggest was 23".  The others around 15-16".  Gonna giv em a shot again this year.  Cant wait.

Interesting, I've never caught a walleye at Shenango on a crawler harness.  Maybe I'm moving too fast at around 2 MPH, but every time I run a harness I either get crappies or wipers.  The lures that have produced for me have been #12 husky jerks, rattle traps, wally divers and stinger spoons.  But most days for me those choices are hit or miss so I've been trying to expand my arsenal of tactics more over the last two years.  Maybe I'll try harnesses again with the electric instead of the gas motor.  As a side note, I've also been considering giving lindy rigging a try on a drift.  Anyone have any experiences with the lindy rigging for walleyes on Shenango.

Thanks,

Barry

Haven't lindy rigged on shenango, but it wouldn't surprise me if ya get some eyes using that technique.  Electric motor I would have to say would be better than your kicker or regular motor because you can start really slow and speed up to slow.  Although you can get em' trollin 2 MPH, we have never trolled that fast.  Have only used a few cranks for trollin and we ususally get a few nicer crappies and that was it.  One thing I will be trying this year are the smaller botom bouncers.  1/2 and 1/4oz sizes are the ones I bought last year.  Not all that big and deep of a lake so I figured the 1oz and bigger bouncers wouldn't be neccessary.  I'll let you guys know what happens, but right now I thinkin CRAPPIE!!
