Hello to all,

I bought a 19.5 ft sea nyph last year and have been trying my luck on the big water.  Been up twice this year with good success on perch but little luck with the eyes (5 each trip), also much luck with the junk the lake offers.  The boat came with 4 trolling rods rigged with pencil lead thick braided line and daiwa line counter reels and several large dipsy divers.  Been marking alot of fish anywhere from 10ft to 50ft but can't seem to connect with them.  Just ordered 30lb power pro to rig all rods with and looking for a good reference for depth charts on dipsys.  (thinking my problem may have been depth location)
Trolling speeds have been between 1.5 and 2.2 mph.  using worm harnesses behind the #1 dipsy.  coming up with alot of baitless hooks.
I have the old precision trolling book but it only covers mono.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Let dipsys out slow! Cannot over ephasize that.  If you run them out fast they sink like a weight to the bottom and perch, zebra mussels, ect can have a field day with you when running worms.

You line counters will never be dead on when using the thin braid, use them as a reference point.  They are usually within 15ft of one another but rarely dead on.

Also any dipsy set on anything other than 0 will spiral and tangle if you let it out too fast, make sure to thumb it and keep good lure drag on the dipsy.

The best advice is to spend the time trolling around until you start bouncing them off the bottom and make notes.  I do it at the beginning of each year just as a refresher.  Usually on my way out, this is the best indicator of where they are running, pay attention to speed when doing this as well.

Often it is not the fish I am marking that I catch.  "Most" of the time I am better by following the baitfish.

Also spend a ton of time getting to know how to REALLY use and read your depth finder.  Get it off the auto setting and turn off the fish ID and start adjusting sensitivity you will find that you need to continue to adjust according to depth and that you will become much better quickly.

Baitless hooks = Stingers on the back of the harnesses.
