I've heard of worse. Like guys gas tanks leaking and they fill the bottom of the boat up with gas, and STILL go out fishin! Like Slick, I'm glad these guys are still alive.

Really guys? the "idiot" and "got what they deserved" thoughts are out of line. A 19 to 20ft boat can handle 4 to 5 ft waves with no problem at all if captained right. You can get the rouge wave and if not paying attention could cause a problem. That may have happened to them, but to call them idiots for going out in 15 to 20 knot winds? Come on, that is the norm on lake Erie. God bless them for making it back safe.

Ditto. We seem to lose one boat a year out there. Hopefully, we will not lose someone this year.
Again, glad all of them were ok, poor choice or not.

They had safety equipment and stayed with the boat.  That sounds like they were smart.  Lake Erie has some strange currents and waves because it is so shallow.  Without knowing what happenned for sure...put it in the this could happen to me catagory and praise God they are safe!

I did find another story that said it was the second capsized boat for this guy.  Maybe it could have been prevented.  He said the wave that caught them was only a 5 footer.  Makes you want to know what he was doing when it went over.

But still, as far as I know, anyone can get caught out in worse conditions than expected.  Lake Erie can change very quickly and catch anyone a little off guard.  Just sayin...

I love the show "This Happened to Me" because alot of the stories are hunters and fisherman who survived unusual circumstances. ( Outdoor Life Mag. take off ) In many of the shows there was nothing they could have done to prevent what happened.

I am very glad these guys are safe, and yes, it could happen to anyone of us just that quick. All you can do is prepare your boat for the best and know your limitations. With that said, those guys had no business being on Lake Erie on that day with that small of a boat. No saying they got what they asked for, just should have used some common sense. Were the 20 Walleye they got worth that? I think not.

Something you guys keep overlooking, is that these fellows launched the day before, from Michigan. The conditions were not necessarliy the same there, when they went out as they were here. Strong W/NW blow, big waves here. Not so much there.

Spoon,
But why let the facts get in the way of a good internet ripping and "wishing harm" on someone?  Geesh...karma is a $itch and hopefully it doesn't turn on you 16506.  Glad everyone made it home safe.  Anything can happen at any time and the only thing you can do is be prepared.

Not wishing harm on anyone... just given ya what the reality is and its hard for some to swallow. 2nd boat he swamped... should have payed attention to  the weather, dont matter what day he put out or what the weather was doin there... $hit happens i understand but alittle common sense goes a far way- a thing that alot of people lack and leads to situations like this... and we probably dont have the whole story so... all in all glad their ok but you'd think they woulda learned the first time if all is true... karma is one thing but alittle common sense and awareness will get ya farther...
