Any interesting summer beverages so far?  Beer of the summer for me has been Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat.  Becoming a fan of Lionshead.  Sierra Nevada has a wheat beer out also by special order through some of the local distributors.  Top notch.  Though not very summery just picked up a bottle of Elijah Craig 18 year bourbon.  Pretty damn sweet.  Been on a bourbon kick since the Derby in May.  Trying to sample all of the older single barrels that are made.  Few more to go.  Just cracked open a bottle of red from Michigan's UP.  If only Erie could produce a comparable product.  Very surprising.  Not a heavy red at all, although a blend not far off from the taste of a pinot or syrah. 

Hoping to hear others, Im guessing Im not the only one popping something open when a slab of meat or fish hits the flames.

I might get beat up over this, but in the Summer I like Corona light with a lime. It seems to refresh me just right[;)]

I also picked up some grapes from Chile and have been fermenting a nice summer wine....should be time to drink it soon...

Southern Tier's HOPSUN is an excellendt summer choice.  My  utility beer is the cool, clean finish of a molson canadian though!!!

In response to the OP:

Sunset Wheat is a perky little brew, though it doesnt hold up well alongside strong-flavored foods.  They have it on tap at my local favorite hangout, so i'm pretty familiar with it.  As far as the Lionshead...well, its a steal for under $14/case, and was the red-party-cup filler of choice for my group of friends at school while playing some beer-pong. 

As for me, I've learned that no matter the season, unless I'm hot and thirsty, a good dark beer is the way to go.  I'm loving the Guinness, Smithwicks, Newcastle (especially!), Penn Dark, and Yuengling Porter.

Also, while I loved Sam Adams' White Ale this spring, I can't stand the Summer Ale.  It just tastes like someone dumped dollar store air freshener into it, to me.  I spose I'll have to bide my time till they swab out the kettles and start turning out Octoberfest and Winter Ale. :)

I think my favorite right now is Salty Dog's Blueberry Wheat. My neighbors and friends agree and say that it is one of the better beers they have tried...

My father in law recently gave me a German dark beer called Kostritzer.  It is the best dark beer I have ever tasted.  Not too rich but full bodied and very smooth.  Has any one ever tried it?  

On the other hand I just tried another dark beer brewed by the Great Divide Brewing company called, "Oak Aged Yeti, imperial stout" and I did not enjoy it at all.  Too rich and very strong, over powering taste, at least for me.

i must be a dinosaur, but i think beer should be a bit bitter and smell like the southend of a northbound skunk (labatts, moosehead).   if i can't have one of these, pabst or bud.

i am lucky if i have one a year, so i like it to be a good one[:D]

Tippy toe we do Corona light a lot or even a case of pony's for a party every now and then.  Try Modello it's way better than Corona.  Goes down like a son of a b-tch on the beach. 

Sam Adams summer ale is way overrated.  Love the air freshener comparison.  I've tried some good blueberry stoudts and a raspberry ale this summer that are not what one would think.  Just a hint of flavor and on a few of them you wouldnt know what fruit was in it if you didnt read the lable. 

On a non-alcoholic side Mike G,  brought home a few cases of Sprecher Root Beer from Indiana this summer.  Its made in Wisconsin and they brew regular beer as well.  Absolutely the best root beer Ive ever tasted.

Dos Equis is not too bad either.  I like Shiner Bock as well.  Drank a lot of that when I lived in Texas.  Unfortunately, with the price of beer so high lately, for around the pool, I have been sticking to the standard Miller Lite.  Tried a case of the Miller Chill and it isn't too bad as long as it is 90 degrees + out and I am sweating bullets.  Almost tastes a little like Zima though and I think if I drink much more of it, I'll need to turn in my man card. 

Anyone ever try Hob Goblin?  My co-worked was traveling a lot to London for one of our jobs a couple years ago and every once in awhile he'd drop a bottle or two off on my desk. That was some tasty beer.  Newkie Brown (Newcastle) as they call it over there is a nice brew too.  Love that one with a big fat angus ribeye or NY strip.

As far as wines, a local greenhouse here east of PGH produces some tasty vintages of reds and whites.  Wife and I like drier than dirt reds and this year he finally started selling some cab and pinot as well as red blends that were pretty tasty for a pretty decent price.  Greenhouse Winery is the name, by the way.

Growing the mint in the garden so I have been making some mojitos for around the pool on occassion and they are always tasty.

there's this new stuff called "frieky ice" they sell at the 6 pack shop over here. it comes liquidfied in a package for $1.50 in lime or cherry. it's 4.2%.
it's made in new york. all you have to do is pour it over ice and you got yourself a cold brew. easy to pack until you find ice!! i haven't tried the cherry but the lime isn't too bad on a hot day.
straubs dark is a smooth dark beer for those who like to try dark beer.
on very hot humid days try a half of mug of cold ginger ale in a half of mug of your favorite beer. (not dark beer). it sorta wakens your taste buds and cools you off quick.

Rapala 11, Ive heard it can be bought in 4 packs at Cracker Barrels.  Think the site is Sprecher.com and can be ordered online.  Bunch of other sodas as well.  Made with raw Wisconsin honey. 

Fresh mojitos and mint juleps are 2 great reasons to have mint in the garden.  Best so far is Kentucky Colonel mint.  Sold at most places you can buy plants. 

DT, love the idea of half ginger ale and half beer.  Going to try.

I am a longtime fan of IPAs and have recently discovered Arcadia Ales Hopmouth Double IPA. very well balanced with its hops and malt characteristics. It dials in at 8% and is really delicious.

I am waiting patiently for my own version of a double IPA which is still bubbling away in my primary.

Another great style is beer brewed with rye. Another great summer beer.

U can never go wrong with belgian style beers in the summer either.

I love beer!!!!!

transferred the double IPA to the secondary and dry hopped for added aroma. this smells like the best hippy kind on earth. cant wait to bottle and drink this beverage. dials in at around 7.5 to 8%. real perty color too. it will be ready to drink end of summer. nice way to finish the summer season with a few of these. will be even better for next summer so will have to save 1 case for next season.

i am a IPA guy myself. here are a few you should look for

my number fav beer is
troegs nugget nectar. seasonal though
bells two hearted ale
gordans double ipa from oscar blues brewery they also
make dales pale ale
green flash IPA recently won best IPA award
all of sierra nevadas beers
stone IPA
dogfish 60 min. and 90 min. try the 120 minute imperial ipa if you want a real kick. 21% alcohol
bear republic makes some good beers
so does lagunitas brewery and moylans brewery
southern tier makes some great double IPA's
avery IPA
hop wallop
bells hop slam is excellent but seasonal
three floyds brewing has excellent beers but you can get them around here

wow finally a fellar who knows what Im talkin bout. cracked a 90 minute dogfish while I transferred my home brew. pretty good. have u ever tried east end breweries Big Hop. it is really good. just missed out at fatheads the other day. they had it on cask, now that should be really good. just bought a bottle of Unearthly by Southern Tier brewing because the store owner raved it up n down claiming it to be better than 90 minute. we shall see.

speaking of seasonals how bout troegs mad elf at christmas. dials in at 11%. definitely a warmer with cherries and honey. troegs makes some fine brew.

unearthly and bells hop slam are my favorite double ipa's. i had east ends ipa on tap at mad mex once. very good. troegs makes some very good beers as does victory. ever check out beer advocates website? they have good reviews of beers and beer places; bars, distributors, six pack shops etc. my buddy gets a case of mad elf every year. he always ends up losing some ;)
