If your hooked fish runs into areas others are fishing-- easy to have happen when the quarters are close-- it is a common courtesy to follow your fish, just as it is a common courtesy for others to pull up their lines so you can do so. Otherwise, you keep everyone between you and the fish out of the water while you land it. Depending upon the fish, you may be able to stand flat-footed and play it in to your feet, but most likely not. The above answer assumes your question was genuine as opposed to a rhetorical question based upon a superior fish-playing ability you may have over the average steelhead angler.
