yea pix, seems like you enjoy posting that stuff

I do, because all clubs like ABATE point out are the accidents involving an at fault vehicle hitting a poor poor motorcyclist.

Posts trying to remind people to watch out for bikes always bring out the psychos who have no clue about riding a bike.

Just a few comments based on some of the posts here.

Helmets -  Yep they do save lives, IF you hit your head.  Fatalities involving bikes do not always involve head injuries and a lot of those who die were wearing helmets.  I feel its a personal choice.  Besides, given the number of automobile accidents, all persons driving and riding in cars should wear helmets.

Loud pipes - necessary due to the many (car) drivers who pay no attention to others on the road, especially while they are talking on the phone.  Ever see a bike rider talking on his phone?  Soon driving while calling will be banned and that will be a blessing.

Poor bike riders - yep, they exist but there are far more people driving cars who should not be on the road than bikers.  Last night I was at a Bike Night in Ohio.  Guess what the special was?  Shots!  On bike night.  Make sense to you?

PixburghScottie - - walk the walk before trying to talk the talk!  You not only fail to mention how many of those in accidents are wearing helmets but how many cars & trucks wrecked during the same period of time?  You have no credibility and you're taking up air someone better could breathe.

I have a headlight and two running lights lit up on my bikes and one bike has an air horn, just to get your attention.  I try to ride safe and watch for people in cars.  With the gas prices so high you'll see lots more bikers as well as drivers of scooters and mopeds, some of which know nothing better than bicycle riding.  We all need to be careful out there!

If you can't understand how it's possible to not see a bike, then apparently your vision is really bad and you're not even realizing it after you cut them off or pull out in front of them.

Closest call I ever had was when I made a right turn on red.  It was dark out, I looked to the left and saw a car coming but had plenty of time.  when I pulled out a biker went flying around me over the yellow line, he wasn't happy.  All I could figure, is his body was blocking one of the cars headlights that was coming in the distance, and I thought his light was one of the cars.

Lots of time when the sun is at strange angles it's tough to see anything.  I don't have a problem with bikers, and wouldn't mind having one myself, but I'm too chicken. No way I'm riding on the road with other vehicles.

I'm all for motorcycle use and awareness, the people that piss me off are the wanna-be Lance Armstrongs that dress up in those gay outfits and take up half the road or ride side by side on a single lane road in the hills. Outlaw them please or make them go to some closed track for gayz.

I have no reason to mention car and truck accidents. You don't see car and truck groups forming and posting signs everywhere, such as "Watch out for trucks with lift kits, we can't react as fast a Porsche".
You do see signs everywhere about bikes, as if they are always the victim.

People like me who don't know cycles are on the road.................you mean like the one I followed home tonight on 376 who was purposely blocking the passing lane, and who I was able to pass in the wrong lane and watched as he purposely sped up to try to block me from passing?

You have no reason to mention them because you don't want to admit bike accidents are far fewer than with other vehicles and yes, with more people riding due to the gas situation we need to remind people like you!  Not as victims, just as people who as a whole drive more conscious of road and traffic conditions than do you.

I would bet if you campare the ratio of good/bad riders of motorcyles, to the ratio of good/bad drivers in cars, there would be a higher percentage of bad riders than bad drivers.

Since loud pipes were mentioned, I feel no vehicle should be so loud that when it drives by, I cant hear the person next to me talking. They also shouldn't be so loud they wake me up at night. They are not necessary, just rediculous.

Since someone mentioned bicycle riders and said they look "gay".... If you want to know what "gay" looks like, think tight black leather jacket with tassles hanging down from the sleeves, and black leather chaps.....if I saw someone walking down the street wearing that stuff, i'd think they were either going to the gay bar, or riding a harley, or maybe both.

I didn't know people who ride bicycles are gay, like mentioned earlier. I'll have to tell my girlfriend that I am breaking up with her to date guys, because my bike says Cannondale instead of Harley Davidson. Hopefully there are some good trails between here and "rumors" (the closest gay bar).

If bikes are so easy to see, as you said in previous posts, then why do we need a special reminder to watch out for them?

My eyesight is just fine, and I also have a perfect driving record, but have still had close calls do to bikes being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'd say there should be reminders to bikers, that they can hide in shadows, and people WILL pull out in front of them.

Just this evening I pulled out in front of a bike.  Dangerous intersection, you can only see a short distance each direction. The sun was out bright but the tree shadows were long acrossed the road (7 pm).  This intersection takes a quick look both directions and then stomp on it. With the bright sun shining through the trees in places, the bikes headlight blended in.  Luckily for us both that bike was going the speed limit or he was having fender for dinner.

imo definitely more bad riders than drivers. however, i've ridden a bike(dirtbike/trike-before quads) since i was around 7. i always look for bikes, however, sometimes they are hard to see.

many times when you hear the loud pipes the riders are wearing earplugs. i agree the super loud pipes are not necassary. watched an episode of "American Thunder" and they showed the acoustics room at the Milwaukee Harley plant. AMAZING the money/technology involved in the sound. imo no need for anything louder than stock.

LMAO!!!!!! sounds like a couple of fellas came out of The Blue Oyster.

"Coke sackers" wear bright spandex,an aerodynamic helmet for going 30 mph and take up half a lane or a whole lane while bicycling on a winding or hilly road.
It is double coke sacking to ride side by side with another guy in the same outfit while doing this and holding up all modern combustible transportation behind you. There are trails and old railroad lines that were converted you can go to. Maybe a stationary cycle is in order if you want to dress up,from the comfort of your own air conditioned home,of course. If you ride a bicycle without these outfits and still hold up traffic, you're just an A-hole and probably hear that when you're bicycling anyway,so no news there.
