Today I went and checked out some of my stands.  I took a bottle of  "Round Up" with me and sprayed all the poison ivy growing around my stands or trees I plan on using.  That way, it'll all be dead by the time the season starts.  Anyone else do any stand preparation, besides trimming?

I went to a few of my stand sites with a climber this month, climbed the trees and checked the screw-in adapters that hold my bow hanger in the tree. I had a bad experience last year, when I was placing my bow on the hanger and the hanger crashed to the ground. I am lucky I didn't let go of my bow. This year, I figured it would be a good idea to check them all before I forget. I also trimmed some limbs while I was out.

Any tree I can use my climber on, I don't go in the woods, until the hunt.  I hang 4-5 stands in areas just yards outside bedding areas.  Setup will be in August.  I do have a few branches to trim for one setup this year.   But, the gypsy moths rocked the white oaks there, so those two wall hangers may not be there come fall. 

I tighten all nuts and bolts on my stand before the season, if you want to call that stand prep.  [:)]  I think it's about time for a new climber.  Mine is about 14 years old.

I go into some of my spots and clean up the leafs and trigs to make for quite in and out and also it seems to also make a great path for the deer to run.  Had many deer come right to my tree on the same path I use.

I also go into some areas with a weed eater and trim high grass, open up some shooting lanes, and also camo in my stands the best I can.  Stands are in the trees by early-mid Aug.  also climber trees are checked to make sure they are still in good areas.

I use 8 hang on's and have done some trimming on my regular locations, have found three more good looking spots and two of my regulars no longer look good. My stands go in next month and I will continue to look for more locations. I am seeing lots of bucks but only two legal and they are not shooters for me. Haven't started spotting yet so still have hopes there are some good ones around. After last year there should be. Have seen two 2-3 year olds not legal, don't like that.

I use a few climbers, I do not do much before season except make sure no one has hung a stand near where I plan to hunt. I have begun practicing shooting from my stand already. I practice a shoot different angles and distances out of the stand. If you have a place to do so, I recommend it.

My hunting partner and I will have about 18 to 20 stands in by the end of August.  Some in proven areas and some in hotspots due to yearly changes.  All of them are gorilla hang on.  I don't like climbers because they are noisy and put you in barren trees where you can not hide as well.  All trimming will be done before the last week of august, then it's time to wait.

18-20 stands! my godness!

We might set up 4-5 stands in an area where we will bow hunt...20 stands where we hunt would be on like every 10th tree...lol

Im gonna try real hard to harvest a buck with a bow this year in PA...no question ill get 1 or 2 deer with a rifle in WV and probaly 1 more doe with a shotgun in 2B...But hoping some dumb luck will play into my hand with the compound here in PA.....

I have actually had few bucks come in to see what the noise was about when putting my climber in.

Interesting that so many of you guys are hunting private property...

weed-eating.. screw-ins... cut limbs, etc ... etc....

I hunt public areas and don't even venture into the areas until late August...

We have 16 stands on the property we hunt.  And that includes the 2 more that haven't been hung yet.  Shooting lanes are done the day we hang em or a day or two after.  Some spots have 2 stands right close to eachother to account for different wind direction.
