New York Yank -> PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 7/20 (7/20/2008 11:53:53 PM)

I had a lot of fun in this little stretch of Mohawk in Cohoes. Nothing that big, but plenty of action.  I got there just before a storm, and the smallies were hitting, got about 6 or 7 in before the rain hit.  After that the smallie bite tailed off, I only got one more. I even got a small walleye. The white bass, a species I don't see much, were slamming in the rain.  I must have caught a dozen and a half of them in about an hour and a half.
Finally I got sick of being in the rain and bailed.
Caught a few of the smallies on Senkos and all other fish on roostertails and vibrax's.  Perch, thanks for the idea, man.  Hope to hook up out there soon.

New York Yank -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (9/1/2008 11:09:19 PM)

I hooked up with Perch Inc and his son for a little angling on the Mohawk in the afternoon Labor Day.  Real bright sun and clear water. We all were catching the smallies pretty good. Spinners, Rapalas, Senkos or flies, didn't seem to matter much, they were biting.  Even got a sheepshead <baaaa>.
I also had a bass swim into my foot and impale himself on my sneaker out in the shallows.  I'm sure I looked pretty slick hopping to shore with a smallie stuck to my foot.  Thanks for showing me that other hole, Kev.  Also for not laughing too hard.

mohawkriverdang -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (9/11/2008 6:06:23 PM)

Behind the uhaul place is awesome . Saw an osprey diving there 2 weeks ago . TONS of smallies . Did you ever go to the spot just before the rapids ? there is a "shelf" you can walk out on and fish the deep water . It can get sick there just before dark . The walk back sucks in the dark though .

Perch Inc. -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (9/11/2008 10:03:11 PM)

I was there two days ago but did go way out, hit the big hole to the right as you go down the little hill!! The fish weren't biting or I had the wrong flies on!! But they were on FIRE Today or I was using the right fly -chratreuse wooly-bugger!!! I was on the side were the Golden Crust use to be!!! Hay mohawkriverdang, Can I use some 6# fluorocarbon line for a leader instead of a tapered leader?? The smallies are broking me off with the  tapered leaders!!

Perch Inc. -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (9/17/2008 11:58:45 PM)

Hit the river about 5pm today took me a little bit but I found some action!! Landed two about 14" and 20 or so smaller ones all on my fly rod!!! It's funny how many years I didn't use my fly rod but not any more!!! It will be in my truck from now ON!! Even catch some trout Sunday in the Poestenkill Creek on the Fly Rod!! Now I need to learn how to match the hatch and tie some flies!!!

New York Yank -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (9/30/2008 9:27:28 AM)

OK! Now i see where you guys are talking about, you have to take the sidestreet next to the uhaul place and theres a little parking area... looks like an easy walk out on shale to below the dam or the hole I think Dan talked about.  I am going to try to get there around 1130 am today 9/30 to check it out.
Hey how often do they release the water? I'd hate to be out there and have the Cohoes Falls open up, that would really suck.

LAST DAY OF 2008 season!  Get out there!    @)))>(

Perch Inc. -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (9/30/2008 10:26:47 AM)

NYY, I haven't seen the water rise too often!! You should be OK!!! I went by yesterday the water looks GREAT!!! There's a good hole to the right as you go down the litte hill, it down were the water turns to the south and go under the next bridge!! But if you go stright out off the hill you will see the faster water!!! I may hit it today after work at 1500!!! GOOD LUCK!!! Hay, I did well  last week at  Bridge Ave Spot, down stream from the bridge!!!

Perch Inc. -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/1/2008 8:41:18 AM)

I landed about 40 in two hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New York Yank -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/2/2008 4:47:45 AM)

40?  Damn you must have been in the zone man...awesome day.
Kev you gotta show me this hole in person I guess... i went to the right and stood out facing Peebles Island right before the rapids... only had one taker that i think was a pike but I lost him.  I couldnt find the smallies there or over closer to the dam.   I'm gonna try again soon though

Hunter25 -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/6/2008 10:05:49 AM)

Fished around the rock islands in Rexford Saturday night. It got cold quick but the bite was on My father-in-law and I hit a few good sized smallies. I also caught a nice walleye. Fun times in October.

Perch Inc. -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/7/2008 4:08:52 PM)

Hit the river today before work, Only one smallies but to my Surprize I landed 6 small STRIPERS!!!!  [sm=dance2.gif] I'm going back tomorrow!!! I didn't have my hip booth today so I couldn't get out too far but I'll have them tomorrow!!!

New York Yank -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/8/2008 1:10:50 PM)

Perch are you sure they weren't WHITE PERCH?  They have similar stripes on em. I caught one last year in the Hudson and thought the same thing.  Dude when you going down again, any mornings?

Perch Inc. -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/8/2008 3:30:18 PM)

NYY, I know my fish and YES, they were small stripers!!!! Went back this afternoon around 1pm only one smallie!!! Looks like I'm headed for some Duck and Deer Hunting!!! Then on to some ice fishing!!!!

blitz42 -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/9/2008 6:43:33 PM)

coulda been hybrid stripers.
white bass and striper. hooked up w/ them down in texas, look just like stripers.
would seem kinda wierd to get a striper this time a year.
hot big were they?

ILikePike -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/9/2008 7:30:38 PM)

a couple weeks back in waterford by the lock, my friends were catching them (you know.... everyone except me) i was really surprised to see them. they were probably only 6 inches at the largest but they were definately stripers.

  They were from 6" to 9", I was told they most likely one year old!! Waiting to get bigger before going to the Ocean!! They will stay in the river for atleast two years They are real stripers not a whitebass or a hybrid!!

New York Yank -> RE: PerchInc.'s stretch of Mohawk 9/1 (10/13/2008 10:20:52 PM)
