"I usually will pull it up after a couple of minutes just to check the bait." Down time. Wouldn't you like to eliminate that? Especially when your Dipsy is 180 feet back.... what a pain and waste of time. Not good especially if you're on top of the eyes when you're checking baits. I agree too that if you stare at the rod tip you'll see the bites. If you're out with the wife though, or happen to be landing another fish, getting a drink etc. etc. it's easy to miss the initial strike......especially when the waves are big. Dragging fish is common then. It will really benefit the rookies on board who are distracted by all that's going on and don't keep an eye on the rod tip. It's not easy for the man at the wheel to watch 6 rod tips, especially in a big Erie chop. Go to the OGF board..... there are plenty of guinea pigs on there. Someone here told me to ask those guys so I did. They are taking Dipsies out of their boats and putting them in the garage! Too bad about the insane price though. I plan to fish my Dipsies this year. I'll see the manufacturer at an outdoor show next February. They give show prices plus I get an exhibitor discount. I'll be running 4 of them next year for starters. Think about it..... never trips from rod pressure because the release is tripped from the other end, AND never drag a fish again.... not even a small perch. If I can finish up earlier I'm saving gas. Maybe I'll limit out too on days where I'm one or two short from fish getting away after being trolled around for 10 or more minutes or from circling around to the pack only to drag a white bass through them instead of a nightcrawler. Man I hate that. Like I said... check out the OGF board for tons of feedback.
