Sweet fish, look at the size of it's mouth.

That comes from a river where when the trout get long they rarely get fat.  [;)]

Thats one beutiful fish. I would hate to even guess (outloud) which river that fish came from. Nice Catch.

sudsy1000 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/11/2008 8:15:00 PM)

Nice fish,  Why did you have to kill it?

Kokanee Killer -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/11/2008 8:40:51 PM)

great catch i would definatly say it was a holdover nice kype,is that the monster you told me at work you were after, not far from where i caught my tiger, you mean sacred indian burial grounds, lol lol lol

Cold -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/11/2008 8:56:05 PM)

First of all, love the fish. (a la Scorekeeper, haha)  Definitely one to put on the wall even if you are a C&R fisherman, its a once in a lifetime!  Or not, if you're lucky, I guess.

Anyway, seeing this thread inspired me to try for trout again in the local creeks and streams (normally I switch to bass and panfish around memorial day).  I was rewarded this evening by a beautiful 14" rainbow that was probably the brightest pink fish I've ever caught.  Anyone know why the impressive color?  It looks like this fish was exceptionally pink as well.  Is it a summer thing?

Kokanee Killer -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/11/2008 9:02:52 PM)

could be a holdover eating a normal diet ,also blending in with surroundings, rather than a concrete raceway, time in a stream will do that, but really insect macroinvertabrate, piscivirous diet really really helps i also never put down the trout rod either, year round salmonid fisher here, glad to hear you reinvented yourself as far as trour goes, bass are OVERRATED Llo kokanee.[;)]

Cold -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/12/2008 1:00:20 AM)

Thanks for the explanation.  I really appreciated the color, as that trout just might be the most beautiful fish I've ever landed.  I'm so used to the silver stockies that it almost seemed fake, as if someone had put a stripe of hot pink nail polish down its side.  In any event, I figured if he survived this long in the warm July water, he deserved a fair chance at seeing the coldness return this fall, so he went back in. [:)]

troutwizard54 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/12/2008 10:47:05 AM)

Kok, no unfortunatly this aint the hog, he is actually bigger, this one came from about a mile above the poop plant lol

tommybanzai -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/12/2008 11:10:50 AM)

troutwizard54 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/12/2008 4:43:51 PM)

kyler if its a fish that we put in the largest rainbow that scotty can remember was one we put in during the 2004 season and it was 24 inches, it could be the same fish but i dunno, could be from the que or just along time traveler from shanksville.who knows all i know is on a 5wt with 2 pound tippet it was one hell of a battle

pxatim -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/13/2008 6:08:57 PM)

It's ok to smile dude haha jk

Awesome fish... I can only imagine the battle on the 5wt.

CATMAN610 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 4:08:11 PM)

That wouldn't happen to be one of the 4 thousand trout they put in for the kids rodeo would it?
I heard from a source(very reliable one) that the Troutwizard likes to piggyback the kids rodeos and then add them to his "portfolio". Keep in mind i'm not knocking anyones skills here, but after all its still a bucket fish.

fisherofmen376 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 4:41:34 PM)

oh man, don't hate, appreciate!   Wherever it came from, that's a nice trout![sm=bgtup.gif]

plnoldrick -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 4:53:43 PM)

CATMAN610 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 4:55:28 PM)

I'm not hating,,this source of mine put me up to this. He told me to come on here and bust balls after we talked today. He said he knew this guy would end up catching this trout because he'd been targeting it since the kids rodeo.

troutwizard54 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 8:51:18 PM)

thats bull ,the biggest fish we put in was a 27 inch brown, and ya i do fish down there alot, and ive never killed a fish there, even numerous 20 inch paleminos and bows, but this fish wasnt even close to the butcher hole, about 3 mile away. so tell your "buddy" if hes got the marbles to say it to my face then do it since he obviously knows me, that fish was far from a pellet head u moron, there is 2 fish in the catch and release section bigger, and we only put in 1200 for the kids, ive helped evey stocking and donated money,so i know what fish have gone in that river, this was not one, .so if someone wants beef tell them to put up or shut up, its a damn fish, i try to share my nice catch and someone has to start stuff, total bull, u guys need to grow up, so as my last post , thanks to the guys that complimented me and to the rest, screw off!

CATMAN610 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 8:55:13 PM)

Ought oh,,,,he was right. He wanted to know if it was 20lb line and not 2lb?

CATMAN610 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 9:00:22 PM)

Ok,,relax. I'm just jagging you,,,you guys on this site are wayyyyy to sensitive. Is ball busting not allowed here?
Is it some un written law?

sudsy1000 -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 9:14:14 PM)

I still haven't heard why he couldn't release it.

kill3ducks1deer -> RE: not a bad day for july trout fishing (7/14/2008 10:16:47 PM)

Well, ya see...when he finally managed to land it, that huge fish jumped up and clamped its mighty jaw about his neck and refused to let go.  He had to get to an ER to have it surgically removed.  The stubborn fish sadly perished in the process, but it succeeded in making it extremely painful for troutwizard to smile, thus the badass expression in the pictures.

That IS how it happened...right? [;)]

Maybe he wanted to do it a favor?? Nice fish for July! I would say the head looks bigger from under feedin' & the poor water shed/feed/temp/stress/tail rot from poor water/acid for Trout & so forth.... Just look at a native or wild Brookie from around the State & they don't compare in beauty [sm=anon.gif]

Still a good catch though [sm=beerchug.gif]
