I still haven't heard why he couldn't release it.

Maybe he wanted to do it a favor?? Nice fish for July! I would say the head looks bigger from under feedin' & the poor water shed/feed/temp/stress/tail rot from poor water/acid for Trout & so forth.... Just look at a native or wild Brookie from around the State & they don't compare in beauty

Still a good catch though

            Crappy

Nice fish.

I agree with crappy as to why the fishes head is so big. That fish is not healthy, looks like it never recovered from spawning.   Don't take that the wrong way, not trying to knock your catch down. Just an observation.  I'll see if I can dig a picture up of a brown I caught on the Little J that was in even worse shape than that. The brown was missing an eye, and apparently couldn't feed enough with 1 eye to sustain it's body weight.

These Trout spawn in the fall right?  How could of it not recovered from spawning that long ago?  Not trying to start a fight but the fish obviously made it through the heat and low water of last summer, made it through a spawn at some point, and I'm sure it's been caught and released prior to this.  Why is it not reasonable to believe that it couldn't live on and give someone else the enjoyment of landing it again.

Just my observation.  A trout that size makes better sport than meal.  Seems if people would practice a little more catch and release we might be in a little better situation here in PA.

I didn't say it was going to die.  When I said it didn't recover from spawning, I meant, it didn't put the weight back on that it lost when spawning. By now it should have.

I dont' know where the fish was caught, so I have no idea how long it has lived in the wild.  It could have been stocked this spring, it doesn't take them long to color up in the wild, a few months.

Only thing I know for sure by looking at that picture is, that fish hasn't been eating as well as it has the last two years, or it's body wouldn't be so skinny.

As for the catch and release thing, if it was caught legally where he was allowed to keep it, then so be it.

Who cares whether he kept it or not?  Every fisherman has the right to decide that.  I bet Troutwizard releases 95-99% of the trout he catches.

Nice fish....HUGE HEAD!

I kept and ate 3 rainbows between 16 and 22 inches from the Yough several weeks ago. They were deep pink in flesh, in great condition....tasted great!!!!

So there you have it....if it is legal, we bear the right.

no thats the problem with that fishes body being smaller then its head. The river he caught it in has no feed in it what so ever. The only reason alot of the fish survive in this stream during the summer is because there are a few sections where cold springs dump in and in those areas youll see pods and pods of fish. I just dont know where exactly he caught it because on here he said it was near the sewage treatment plant and  others are saying another place. either place on the stream there isnt any feed but its still tough to catch a nice fish of that size.

great fish! I spend most of my time chasing eyes, but I am also a hardcore flyfisherman. I fish alot of time fishing the numerous delayed harvest waters in south west pa, as do many anglers who reply on this site. I have enjoyed catching probably hundereds 9"-14'' bucket fish this year. Is it really a crime that I especially enjoyed a 25" golden and 24" brown that probably came from a bucket. I am a catch and released fisherman, but so what if this guy kept this fish or not.

Nice Fish Wizzard, to bad you caught that out of a kids day, I know it is a month after the kids day. That fish was located in the butcher hole above the feed shop on the stoney creek. It is a shame that people would take a fish out of an area that the land owner had opened to the public and posted it catch and release. You are the people who ruin it for everyone, wizard i have seen your pictures with big fish now I know how you get them at kids tournaments. I see a bunch of people fishing there everyday and it would be a shame if you could not fish there. This fish is by no means a hold over either look at its tail. I hope you feel strong becauce you are really trying to look it in them pictures.

Yepper's Nice fish indeed, any trout over 17 inches is a nice trout. I catch between 400 too 500 a season and i must say my release rate is about 95% if i catch a nice big fat hog, i sure do take him home to be boned out and fried up. Taste very good and plus i buy a lic, just like anyone else so who are we to judge one another if someone wants to keep a fish or several a year long as they are eating them. I hate the people that catch hundreds a year freeze them and then throw them away cause they got freezer burnt, that's. Only kill what your going to eat if not release. But again who gives 2 $HIT'S what others say congrats and nice fish for July. I lost a 20 + 3 days ago on pine creek snapped 2lb tippet took a black ant pattern size 24 nice fight if i would have won he be in the pan sizzling. Alot of trout left in the creeks got find the deep pools, and the feeders that run into the creek. This time of year get's ruff but if you get a few it's worth every penny.

I agree with pin drifter.  The tons of rain we've had had kept the streams up high enough for good summer fishing this year.  I would add your best bet is to get out early.  6:30 am to 9:30 am is pretty much your best shot.  I went out two weeks ago and caught 21 trout in 3 hours by fishing before the sun's heat came out.  As soon as the sun was directly over the water the trout shut down.  Riffles and deep pools seem to be the best spots.

Perhaps because the gentleman is legally permited to keep such a fish and that was the route he chose to take.  You and I may put all of our fish back, but I don't feel it's my right to question someone who keeps a fish.

The funniest thing about this guy is he has pictures of all the trout he caught out of the river that has kids rodeos the day before. I was at a bar recently with one of my fishing buddies who goes to that river and he pointed out the pictures, hes the only one who puts up pics. I asked the bar tender about troutwizard and he said all he does is drinks all the time and fishes. I was impressed until the bartender said he was the one who told troutwizard bout that fish being there and then how he says he catches all these fish on his fly rod with bait. We were there for and hour and sure enough troutwizard himself showed up. We left shortly after that because the bartender said the biggest bull crap talker just walked in. Also a true sportsmen smiles when he bags a nice kill or catch.

Planning on checking out the "S" section upstream of 219.  Anyone fish that part of the Stoneycreek?  What's the deal with that little dam by the trash dump?

woah thats surprising. I fish in and around Butler County and I have to say my trout activity has been slow! Went out to a heavy stocked creek and to no avail. The water was very low, got outfished by my dad, and got drenched on for 2 hours! Never the less nice fish! Good luck the rest of the year.. and hey October is just around the corner. ;)
