HookLineSinker -> Mohawk 7/9 (7/9/2008 2:03:04 PM)

I woke up at midnight this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. My crazy work schedule messes me up.

Soooo, by 3am, I couldn't wait any longer and hitched up the boat. Launched by 3:30. I didn't start any fishing until about 5. I just scouted around and watched my sonar.

Once daylight arrived, smallmouths were jumping everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE. I managed 8 in the next 2 hours and called it a day. Finally found some smallies of decent size in this river. No pigs yet though.

I have been doing well in the river in Cohoes, not real big smallies but they can fight!!! Headed out Monday am!! Last week I landed a RAINBOW trout were the Goldencrust was!! Still don't believe it!!

A rainbow in that stretch? Wow what is it, about a foot deep there?  Never woulda thought there was anything in that water. Good job!

There's some deep spots, I would say 10 ft. maybe!! I have been fishing at Bridge Ave Too!! That whole looks to be very deep!! We hammered some whitebass there last time, got one every cast until that strom came thru!! I have been fishing that part of the Mohawk for about 30 years and year ago it was maybe the best smallmouth spot in this part of NY!! My biggest back then was 21.5"!! It's getting better all the time!! no real big ones but a ton of 10" to 13" MAN thay can fight!! I use a ulta-lite rod with 4# test!!

OK you've piqued my interest Perch,  those spots are less than 5 minutes from my house.  I think I'll have to check them out ... do you access the river right under the bridge or is there a path someplace?  Seems like all ya'd need is an old pair of sneakers to venture in there. You can PM it to me if you don't want to to advertise your spot. Thanks man!

Perch Inc. -> RE: Mohawk 7/9 (7/18/2008 9:45:23 PM)

No need for a PM, I'm more then glad to tell you right here!! I park on the rd. north of the bridge there's alittle grassy spot I park there and walk down the little hill, go out to the fast water(you'll see it) it's a good spot!! Then work your way down river toward the bridge! I have wader shoes but old sneakers will work!! I use Mr. Twisters, Rapala's #3 and #5  Original Floating Silver/Black (looks like a baby herring witch are in the river right now) Rabel crawfish!! Good Luck!! I'm headed to Whitehall for the weekend back in town Tuesday if you like we can hook-up any time after that, I'm working the midnight shift so after 3pm will be good for me!! I have a few other spots I can show you!!
