Mikastorm -> White perch record (7/8/2008 3:03:30 PM)

Harrisburg, PA – A white perch (Morone Americana) caught in the Delaware River has been named by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) as the new state record for the species.
James Clark was fishing for striped bass and white perch under the Commodore Barry Bridge in Chester around 5 p.m. on April 13 when he hooked the record fish. The catch measured 12.5 inches and weighed 1 pound, 12 ounces.[image]http://www.fish.state.pa.us/newsreleases/2008/041308_CLARK_white_perch.jpg[/image]
The weight of the fish surpassed the previous record by five ounces. The catch broke the record of 1 pound, 7 ounces, held by Bangor angler Kevin Nelson Strunk since 1991. Strunk caught his fish in Minsi Lake, Northampton County.
Pennsylvania certifies state records based on total body weight. Potential record fish must exceed the established mark by at least one ounce, as weighed on a certified scale. To be considered for state record certification, a fish must be caught using legal means, in season, from Pennsylvania waters open to the public without charge or fee. Fish taken from farm ponds, fee-fishing lakes, ponds or streams or in waters restricted to use by club members or their guests do not qualify. A biologist or Waterways Conservation Officer from the Commission must examine the fish. The PFBC is the only entity that can certify an official state record fish in the Commonwealth.
More information on white perch can be found at http://www.fish.state.pa.us/white_perch.htm.
The mission of the Fish and Boat Commission is to protect, conserve, and enhance the Commonwealth’s aquatic resources and provide fishing and boating opportunities. For more information about fishing and boating in Pennsylvania, please visit our website at www.fishandboat.com.

The ones I catch out of Chautauqua have got to be close to that size, buy like CB said, I never bother to measure them, however, my 7 year old likes to measure everything we catch and a whitey I caught last week was nearly 12".  I didn't think that one was overly big either.

chipmunk -> RE: White perch record (7/8/2008 7:13:35 PM)

I caught one the other day that I bet was over 2 pounds.  I just figured they got around the same size as white bass so I didn't think anything of it.  I'm gonna start weighing them now.

Yeah I don't think many people care to report these records. None the less cool fish.

That's what I was thinking haha... who knows weighs a white perch. Oh well, somebody wanted that record!

mikelravy -> RE: White perch record (7/9/2008 8:51:52 AM)

I threw back a record on Saturday.  Easily weighed two pounds.  I bet I've thrown back a dozen records since the population exploded in Erie.

D-MAC -> RE: White perch record (7/9/2008 10:06:38 AM)

Who would want that record anyway.....unless you caught it on a flyrod with light tippet....

John 3:16 -> RE: White perch record (7/9/2008 4:02:34 PM)

Agree with most.  Would not be a record I'd brag about to often.  Caught a citation perch on Sunday and didn't think twice about fillet on the grill!
