Are you tired of spending hours waxing your fiberglas boat only to have the chalky oxidized appearance show up again 4 weeks later? I stumbled onto some stuff called Blue Magic[image]http://forums.fishusa.com/micons/m8.gif[/image]. It's actually a metal polish but says on the box that it is for fiberglas as well. Requires half the elbow grease, shines better and after 4 weeks still looks great. It leaves a silicone coat that seems to work better than conventional wax and does an amazing job on the metal. Now if I can just get the teak to stay nice longer. Oh, I am not selling this stuff or affiliated in any way with the company, just thought someone may find it helpful.

I bought mine at the auto parts store. I guess a lot of auto dealers and detailer have been using it for years. My boat is a 23' walk around and it took 6 tubes and about $4.50 each. I actually carry a tube on board now and polish metal while the action is slow.

Bulldog, did you try compounding them waxing to see if it would last longer for you? I use to do it with mine and would make a huge difference. Plus, when I would wash the boat, I used Rain-X marine soap. That was good stuff.

Don't skimp on the compound if you do it...You get what you pay for. There's a lot of junk out here...OTH

Actually, I was at the auto parts to buy compound when I stumbled on to this stuff. The biggest thing it has going for it is that it is EASY to use. You would probably get a deeper shine by compounding and then waxing, but that means lots of elbow grease TWICE. I'm still watching the long term performance of this stuff and may change my mind, but I doubt it. This is almost as easy as washing the boat down with a sponge, almost. There is still some rubbing and buffing but nothing like the waxing I used to do. I will say that it doesn't do alot for rust stains and the like though. So many of our fishing boats get to looking pretty bad because we would rather be fishing than buffing and this may help with that. I think it added at least 1K to the value of the boat in an afternoon.

get yourself an orbital buffer and some liquid wax....i can wax my entire hull in about 2 hrs when i care to do so...lol

Other than that i usually just wash with the boat wash and avoid any kind of soaps that strip wax...

Right now though my boat is not clean...its dirty and bloody...Walleye in full swing!  I love watching the guys lick their boats clean at walnut creek...They wash and wax them, then scrub off the scum line with the clorox clean up and it strips all their wax off...Hilarious!!

Bulldog, your right about the elbow grease with the compounding and waxing! [:@] 

How does it fair wit the Seagull test?

I do mine twice a year.  Once in the spring before the fishing season and once in the fall for storage....anything else is overkill as far as I'm concerned.  I did, however install a washdown kit on mine and can't wait to try it out this Friday.

I agree, I do mine twice a year at the most. Definately in the spring and usually in the fall. Was on the lake till late October last year and the weather turned to winter so fast that it didn't get done before storage last year. Have to agree with CB as well, but have found that the nicer I keep the boat the better guests treat it. If it's a mess, they seem to make little effort to clean up after themselves. ShutUpNFish, you'll love the washdown, I hose the back of the boat down after every fish, keeps the slime down for better footing and blood is easier to get off when it's fresh.

So far it's standing up to the birds as well. I'm thinking of elictrifying my railing, I'll let you know how that works out, lol.

Electrifying your railing...then you'll have fried seagulls all over the boat and have to find some other product that cleans them off good...

Bulldog.... I met you awhile back when we had to pull into Walnut to wait out a storm. You were tied up right in front of my wife and I. I could not remember the name of the stuff you told me to try. After reading this post though I went and bought some Blue Magic at Auto Zone. They only had 2 so I ordered 4 more. Can't wait to try it out next week. You were right though.... man does that stuff smell! Ammonia city! Thanks and good luck on the water.

Indian, It was nice talking to you folks, too bad the storms were teasing that day. Actually turned out to be GREAT fishing though. We tried to wave you down a couple of time on the water after we talked, you guys were running shallower than us and there were lots of fish marking where we were at. The three of us put 30 in the freezer that weekend. Nothing quite like getting home at 11 pm and filleting and packing fish till 3 am.  If not for the storms on Friday we would have limited and we did limit out on Saturday. My son caught the fish in the pic on that day, 30" 9#. All of the eyes that weekend were big heavy fish. Hope to see you folks again, I'll give a holler on the radio next trip. Probably won't be till next week though.
