Any info on this body of water would greatly appreciated! I have just recently learned that in the last few years it has been cleaned up quite a bit as far as water quality. I found out today that in the Appolo area it has been fishing good for both smallies and trout? I would be more interested in the smallies. No need to give up any secret spots. I am willing to do my home work on mine own. Just some general info on what fish are available in this river. Is acess available? Any info would greatly be appreciated! Thanks for all your help!

I follow the river on occasion to Altoona, theirs a bike trail that follows it for what seems like a good distance, idk exact town names though, def nice looking water.

This river is getting a lot better.  Fish you will find here are lots of carp and suckers, some drum or sheepshead (not sure what they are called but see them all the time). a decent amount of Walleye, saugeye, smallies, largemouth.  You'll see the occasional bluegill, sunfish, rockbass and crappy.  Caught a small pike once, I would imagine some musky dump out of the loyalhanna as well.  You'll get some catfish too, not sure what kind, havn't seen any bullheads or channels so maybe they are mostly flatheads. and of course you will get trout dumping out of some of the tributaries and I think they may even be stocked near apollo.  I have seen all of these but not caught all, since the water is often pretty clear its easy to put on a pair of goggles and see whats under the surface.

What is a good access area there....without giving away honey holes of course....?

I'm not real familar with down around Apollo, but just below the caunamagh (I know I butchered that spelling) Saltsburg, and avenmore all have very easy access for small boats.  You can't actually get your car or truck to the waters edge but you can get pretty close.

cappoletti -> RE: Apollo/Kiskiminetas (7/3/2008 2:25:08 PM)

There are launches at both Avonmore and Saltsburgh   access is simple anymore. There is also a ramp at Conmeaugh Dam outflow

Hyde Park across the river from Leechburg has a boat ramp. The local fire department I believe put it in, but public permitted to use it.

fished the river yesterday, 9 smallies & 1 wallyeye .  the river is getting cleaner . I would not  eat fish out of the kiski but some folks do. one place you can start is by the bowling alley on rt. 66 .
