CRAPPIE_SLAYER -> Pymy Panfish (7/1/2008 6:58:41 AM)

Just wonderd how the crappie and bluegill were hitting out there. Haven't been out for a while, but the bluegill bite was hot last time I was there. Taking the girlfriend out on the boat for the first time tonight and would like to get her into a few crappie.

Forget Pymatuning. Go to Shenango. It is loaded with crappies. My Father-in-law and I get about 20 each visit. This spring and early summer we have had a total of 411 keepers which were 10 inches or better, releasing all the smaller ones unless they swallowed the hook and could not survive.

Thanks Longline. Have heard the same about shenango from others.  Hitting pymy tonight because it's quite a bit closer. Gonna have to make it to shenango sometime though.  Any starting points, I've never been there.

Crappieslayer,

I would launch at Manning launch just south of Tuttle Campgrounds and head west to the shallows along the Ohio Shore or north to the Stumps off Linesville. You do know that if you have a PA license you can fish Ohio waters.

you can also try the islands down at 41 bay.  have done okay in the summer there.  farther south, the bay by the boat club (edison?) can be decent.

Any good spots for shore fishing to take a group of young boys?

thanks in advance

Thanks guys. Made it out w/ the little woman for a few hours last night.  Was fishing around Whaley Island. Caught 6 nice keeper crappies, and a few small ones. The girlfriend doesn't fish much, so she was happy she had the "big fish" bragging rights when she hauled in a 18" channel cat [:D].  Will have to try downaround tuttle next. Have heard from others that they do pretty good over there.

fruntz,
  As for shore spots, I fish bridge 20 alot. Not a ton of fish in there right now, but the youngsters will more than likely be guranteed to catch a few small large mouths, smallmouths, bluegills, and small crappie.  Might try the fries access road as well. Many catfish at the end of the access road, or you can walk down the shoreline through the woods a little ways and get into some bluegills.

7-2 crappies were close to causway north side .

bigben7 -> RE: Pymy Panfish (7/3/2008 1:37:01 PM)

they are killing the bluegills at the spillway. the channel cats seem to be tapering off a bit

rapala11 -> RE: Pymy Panfish (7/5/2008 11:10:17 PM)

caught a ton of gills and sunnies tonight, first bay south of the causeway (close to the beach) on the ohio side.  unfortunately, few had any shoulders.  i am long overdue to post a report, so i felt i should get something in.

rapala11 -> RE: Pymy Panfish (7/6/2008 11:18:23 PM)

went up wading again tonight, with the hopes of getting into some smallies....but i got into some smalls again.  if small panfish indicate coming years of good sized panfish, then pymy is headed for some banner years.

CRAPPIE_SLAYER -> RE: Pymy Panfish (7/7/2008 11:58:51 AM)

I agree rap. For every keeper crappie I kept this spring, was throwing about 4-5 little ones back.  Made it out again Saturday and caught a few decent crappies off the weedbeds, but no major numbers.  Was told by a friend he was hitting them about 12-15' deep.

crappiechuck -> RE: Pymy Panfish (7/7/2008 9:14:42 PM)

Drift Tuttle to the obstruction Bouy with Minnows under a bobber at 5 feet and you will catch all the big crappies you want!!!!!!!!!
