YOU need to read, rather than ASSume. The extension was attached to the war spending bill ( That Bush ASKED for ). He considered vetoing it, but now says he'll sign it. He has done this with several war funding bills, threatwened to veto them, over one issue, or another, then blamed Dems. for not wanting to fund the troops.

Status: online 		Chicagos gun laws require you to re-register your guns each year and require the necessary paperwork and pay a fee each year for each gun . They also require you to register a firearm BEfore purchasing it. These so called REASonable restrictions will stop criminals i'am sure.

Status: online 		I should have also said that unless your handgun was purchased before the ban went into effect in 1982 you cannot register it and it is illegal to have one anywhere in the city including your home. Just another reasonable gun law according to the good Democratic mayor.

Status: offline 		spoon ,i think he did sign it and heard him thank dems and rep for passing it,,war funding that is,,,, dems always got to get something for something or no pass,,,,he  was going to veto one war funding bill earlier cause dems thru in unemployment extensions,, same as the stimulus package,,,,

Status: offline 		rap.lets go with this,,, i was born and raised a dem,always told ,they are for the working class,, well never really seen it,,, clinton, not a bad pres after he went to the middle to govern,, as a liberal,not good... switched to bush,,not for him ,but a change,well not good either,, politics,no sure answer,, no matter who in charge,,, now a independant and will vote that way till we have a third party in charge,,, cant live under a 2 party system and expect things to change...

Status: online 		The law requiring yearly registration while excessive, will probabley stand ( I have to register my truck, boat, and trailer every year. Doesn't prevent me from owning them. ). The fees, MAY be stuck down ( lowered ) if they are found to be prohibitively high. The post 82' ban, will almost certainly be stuck down.

There were discussions of several GC laws, the day following the court's ruling. One of them incuded bans in public housing. I mistakenly included Chicago's law in this group.

Not in hopes that he'll veto it, but in an effort to get SOMETHING through. Without a veto proof majority the have to attach something THEY want, to something HE wants. THAT'S the game ( like it, or not ), and if you don't think the Republicans play it very well themselves. You are truely blinded by your ideology.

It isn't always about "pork" either. Remember the reconstruction bill the Kerry " voted for, before he voted against"?  The original bill included a provision requiring Iraq to repay the money ( no pork, and made good fiscal sense to me ), Kerry voted FOR this version, and Bush threatened to veto any bill with this provision. The subsequent bill excluded this provision ( Reps still contolled both houses at the time ), and Kerry voted against.

If you look back at these funding bills, the Dems ended up relenting on most, if not all of their requests, and giving Bush what he wanted. Obstructing bass turds that they are.

Status: offline 		WELL SPOON,WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS DONT JUST GIVE THE FUNDING FOR WAR, but we also want something in return,,, just like the original stimulus pakg,, started out at 800.00/per person,,dems wanted to add unempl benifit extensions and throw in welfare recipients,so it got knocked down to 600.00,,,, (still have my check,,will not cash it),,,yes im sure the repubs do the same thing,,, who ever has majority does, right now its the dems,, thats what im saying,,,you talk veto proof,bs, majority still rules,, look at the drill here votes ,dems say no, so with majority they stop it everytime,, lot of bills got stopped recently,, we just dont here of them ,, got to go look em up if we want to see what,,,this last war bill , i think it passed pretty clean,,cause people are getting tired of the party politics and want action no matter who does it,,,no matter what we think or say,, both parties get what they want,just not all of it,, there is no working out a game plan no more,,

Please explain how it's BS. Bush can ( and has ) stop ANY piece of legislation the Dems pass with his veto, which the Dems lack the votes to override. So for you to suggest that the Dems, are in control, or rather complete control does not compute. They have more power, than when Reps held the two houses, but are far from in control.

Funny, that the Dems seem to control EVERYTHING ( at least in your mind ), whether they hold the white house, both houses, one house, or none. Yet the Reps have NO control, and bear NO responsibilty when they hold one, two, or even all three. It would appear then, that the Republican leadership is incompetent. I can't imagine why anyone would want to elect them to ANY office.

Status: online 		Unless on party holds both the whitehouse, and both chambers ( never works out well, regarless of the party ), it will always breakdown to "You want something, you've got to give something". All, or nothing propositions from either side usually result in nothing. Although if you look back honestly, Bush has pretty consistently gotten everything he has asked for.

Status: offline 		YES ,VERY INCOMPETENT,,i didnt vote for one of them in 2004,, i voted for independants,,,bush ,probably did get most,cause he is a liberal/repub,,, big govt,lots of spending,,screw the little guy,,, that is what liberalism stands for,, ahh excuse me,they are going to help the middle class,, what a joke,, did you ever read how stalin and marx took control of russia,,, stalin blamed the countries problems on the rich and landowners,, (here now), told marx to go throw the farmers off their property,by will of people believing in his philosophy,gave these farms to the most povershed ,in exchange for food in the big cities,, well it wasnt working,so stalin had marx go back to the farms and retake it from the same ones who were all for this propaganda,, marx had a hard time with this but had to obey orders from stalin,, moral of this is same as here,, big corp,oil co. ,the rich are the blame for our woes,,,so you get rid of them thru taxation, then the govt wants more,so now they come for the middle class,,, believe it or not that is socialism/liberalism at work

Status: online 		It's interesting that in 1996 when the unemployment rate dropped to a six year low of 5.6% Clinton made a big splash saying it proved his fiscal policies were working. Now the rate is 5.5% and the sky is falling and it's all Bush's fault. Must be an election year.

Status: offline 		s10, i think the difference is that in 96, a lot of the unemployment was temporary, due to slow business.  today, it is closings that put people out of work.  yeah, it is an election year.  the crap spews from one side to the other.

as for job losses, they have been going on since the late 70s, but snowballed in the 80s and 90s and become epidemic after the millenium.

Status: online 		Actually the good paying jobs took the hit in the 70's and 80's with the closing of the steel mills and have remained fairly constant since. They will always flucuate some with the season and weather and there is very little the president can do to influence it except stay out of the way and let the feds do their job. The present uptic is due to the high price of oil and no president can control that much short term.

Status: offline 		i still say that the unemployment that we are seeing over the last ten years is due to jobs leaving our borders.  we just had another manufacturing concern in the area move to mexico.  the jobs that are created (for the most part) are paying minimum wage or just above.

Status: offline 		i agree,,job loses are due to them leaving for cheaper ways of operating,,, good paying jobs are hard to find,,, the high cost of doing business just keeps going up,,, with oil so high its hard to not see it in the economy,,not only gas prices,but many of the products used in manufactering are derived from petroleum,, it effects all sectors,,, its time washington stops the politics and come to some sort of solution to stop the bleeding,,, govt never fixes a problem ,it creates problems,,

From the 7.4% percent that Clinton started with, 5.6% WAS pretty good, and getting better. From the 3.9% that BUSH started with, 5.5% ain't so good, and looks to get worse.

That is the difference that you can't seem to get.

Also factor in that under Clinton we at least had some fiscal responsibilty,none at all with Bush.Anyone know what every man,woman,and child now are burdened with from the national deficit?I bet it would be 3 times as much today as it was when Clinton left office.I'm too lazy to look it up,though.

Status: offline 		PAPPY, no agenda,, wont change my life any,, but look what we have for options,2 parties that want to spend us out of existance,, one party thinks tax hikes that are outrages are the answer, and the other party luvs big business,,, and here we are , on here we are posting our differences for nothing,,, i think this is a big game plan to divide this country in shreds,, see ,the worse it gets,the easier the govt can have us accept anything they throw at us,,, remember our forefathers were very concerned over a govt to powerful,,, when the people lose control of govt,we in deep sh---t,,, i think we already waist high
