bassinbrian -> My past few weekends of fishing. (6/24/2008 9:10:59 PM)

Did some smallie fishing last week, insane numbers but nothing over 3lbs. Here is my best one @ 18" long ... they definatly need to bulk up some after the spawn, very skinny.

Went to my buddies camp for a few days this past weekend, hit some small lakes in Albany county. Good fishing Friday & Saturday but Sunday was slow. Here are a few cookie cutters by me and a few of the guys ...

Brian:

Don't have to worry about PM's.  Just get out on Saratoga Lake/Lake Lonely or Ballston Lake and you will find plenty of bass.  Big surprise on Lonely/Saratoga is when a pike hits your bass lure and takes you for a ride.
I've been mainly fishing Moreau Lake, but the bass are small (14-16").  They still entertain me each evening, since the lake if only ten minutes from my house.  Did hear that Glen Lake was giving up some nice bass, but I haven't tried it yet.

All nice bass, we use to use live bait shiners or crawdads on a single EC baithook with a few split shot enough to quickly sink and jig the smallies off bottom drifting 20 to 50 preferably 30 ft deep rock shoals and ledges along theshores of these deep resis. smallies are lb per lb incredible fighters on light tackle. I've caught and released 5 lbers that i thought were 10lb+ browns! lol no doubt they are fun when you find them.. this is the way the go daytime fishing for smallies..I like using as light as possible .. for this i'd go with my light /med action bass pro extreme spinning rod and 2000 stradic with a 6lb charcoal fireline always use a barrel and leader! If i got hung up enough,i'll switch spools to straight 8lb. mono. I wish i could fish today but too far gas day trip.. got to wait till next week! [;)]
