I think somebody went trolling and caught quite a few!

Personally, I think snakes are cool and used to catch buckets of em on my uncles farm in his old rockpiles.  Most were garter snakes thankfully but my cousin and I occassionally came across some copperheads that ended up in the bucket.  Fortunately, my uncle gave us a crash course on snake IDs and we were lucku enough to not ever get bit.

kill3ducks1deer -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 11:48:29 AM)

i think its fair to say we need them or we would have nasty animals like rats everywhere. i dont feel like fishing in rat infested waters. just watch out for the snakes they wont bother you if you arent trying to step on them or anything

Pretty much sums you up too my friend...

How about this- take the carberator out of your bathtub, take off your white-ribbed wife-beater, go splash some water on your face and look in the mirror- what do you see under that big ol' mullet? A sportsman? Or an f'tard who likes to kill snakes for no particular reason other than the fact that you're a sissy and a pansy-ass redneck.

Wish it was just a troll, but seriously, too many people have exactly that attitude. I don't doubt that the guy is being serious...

gobyking -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 12:12:18 PM)

How many people here have been bitten by one?I doubt very few unless they were messing with someones pet snake.They always swim away in my case and hey,if they don't move,walk around!2 years ago I was almost bitten by a 4 1/2 ft diamondback of all stupid things,looking for a golfball near the Tampa Bay western tidal water in Pinellas County(Feather Sound CC).I turned around after picking it up and there he was by a stump,I walked right by him(best camo in the world on 'em when they are in chopped up tree bark).He could have gotten me since my leg was about 18 inches away,but didn't.Did I kill him with my club after I backed up?No way.He let me pass in his turf.Although,the blood went right out of my body into my shoes 30 seconds later from the adrenaline.Let them be.

Brookie1 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 12:14:01 PM)

hahaha, Seriously, what are you a former guide of?

S-10 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 12:21:54 PM)

The bigger ones taste a lot like chicken although in Pa. there are now rules about when and how many you can take. Haven't done much in recent years but used to make belts and neckties out of the skin and cook the meat. They do smell when you skin them. Now mostly leave them alone unless their near the house which in recent years is very seldom. Garters and blacks are harmless and do keep the other pests down. There are still quite a few rattlers in Pa. but only in the more remote areas. With the new regulations they are starting to come back. There fun to hunt but not fun when you aren't expecting them.

theyjustswimup -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 12:44:22 PM)

I really dont know why i dont like snakes.  like i say to myself that they are not gonna hurt me, and i have never got bitten by one. but its still my biggest fear.  i really wish i could get over the fear but i cant...lol

S-10 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 1:06:30 PM)

You probably had the fear instilled in you from birth. In the early days they were the cause of many deaths of our ancestors. Anymore,  even though there are thousands of snakebites in the U.S. every year only about a dozen end in death due to advances in medicine.

griffon -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 1:56:15 PM)

...and pretty much every other post he has been making.  It is quite ironic that only two people have jumped on this troll's bandwagon (one being a newcomer and the other being a veteran member for many years).

Brookie1 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 1:57:04 PM)

Im just stating the fact that I hate snakes. He wants to turn it into
a name calling pissing contest.

formerguide -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 2:09:45 PM)

I leave for Montana in a few weeks time, then I'll be chasin tarpon in FL for a weekend...

Honestly, I've had more fun with this post than I have with any other for ages on this board- guess I've been hangin' out at the Drake for too long now!

Brookie1 (seriously, get a new handle buddy)-

Go kill as many snakes as you care to- hell, kill everything in sight for all I care. You'll get yours in the end, and as far as holding your own, I'll be happy to take you up on that. Really- honest... On a serious note too Brookie- there might be some bad storms coming through PA this evening- be sure to take the wheels off your single-wide so that you don't roll away.

Brookie1 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 2:13:45 PM)

Have a good trip to Montana........

formerguide -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 2:16:59 PM)

I will- can you even find Montana on a map you ignoramus (look it up) or was that not covered in your remedial GED class?

S-10 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 2:18:25 PM)

Snakes are interesting plus it's something to do until another troll starts a thread on the lack of deer in Pa.[;)]

Brookie1 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 2:24:40 PM)

seriously, you are an #@!

The thing is Ms. Brookie, I'm not- in fact, I'm a fairly nice guy; well-spoken, intelligent, with a fantastic family, strong work ethic, and love of the outdoors.

However, when some idiot talks rather cavalierly about killing animals for no reason at all, other than their own fear and stupidity, well, it rubs me the wrong way, you know what I'm saying? (Use your dictionary on the word "cavalierly" if you must...) Why would you kill an animal because you think they are "nasty" (your words) regardless of the facts? Even more, why in the world would you announce said ignorance?

Now, to be fair, I'm having fun with you, and quite frankly, can only assume that you're either 12 years old, or a ward of the state- regardless, enjoy your wanton killing, and per chance we'll meet on the water someday and see who can really fish. Tight lines, g'day, and cheers mate!

Dan

formerguide -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 2:45:34 PM)

Gee, if I keep this up, I might actually make it to 1000 posts sometime this year!

Here's a fun pic for you Brookie- taken in the Amazon (again, use an Atlas if need be...) To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "That's not a snake... now, this is a snake!"

MackJ -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 2:46:31 PM)

I do not like snakes and avoid them, but wouldn't kill one without good reason.  That said, I also sit down to pee and I resent the posters who have equated these two unrelated preferences.

That's some good stuff there! Very good and well said!

spoonchucker -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 3:02:54 PM)

Brookie,

Kill a snake ( other than possibley a Rattler ), near the barn, or silo of most farmers, and you may find your pissing into a plastic bag the rest of your life.

There are a number of reasons to kill, ( animals, fish, reptiles, and even humans ). Irrational fear, is NOT one of them.

crappiefisher -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 3:22:34 PM)

S-10 -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 3:30:39 PM)

White faced hornets near the house is Rational Fear. Those babies hurt. Don't worry about the rats, the snakes will take care of them.[:)]

spoonchucker -> RE: holy snakes! (6/25/2008 3:42:59 PM)

"What about White Faced Hornets & Rats?"

YIPEE! I finally chased them white faces outa my yard. Sorry they flew over to yours.

And NO I don't want them back.
