Deadbolt401 -> Canadohta (6/23/2008 1:09:55 AM)

So just came back from a 3 day stay at Lake Canadohta. I can honestly say I've never fished in a worse lake in my life. No bass in the whole channel I was staying on. Caught a 19 inch walleye and some LM about 300 yards downstream from the channel in between some beaver dams. Other than that NOTHING.

Figured someone else has to hate this place too.

BASS ACKWARDS -> RE: Canadohta (6/23/2008 6:40:20 AM)

I can honestly say that I too hate it there. It's like most places I go to - I either catch a bunch of fish or no fish. Chalk this lake up to no fish. Haven't had a decent bite there in 5 years. Last year I did see a guy our on his dock catching a couple walleye. Most were in the 10-12" range - and he was putting them in a cooler for dinner ! Then later that day we seen a couple of drunks with a stringer full of bass ( a couple nice ones) tied to the back of the boat. After all day of fishing we went back by where they were docked and there was the stringer fill of fish still tied to the back of the boat (about 6 hours later) and 5-6 nice bass floating and bloated on the surface. There is no way they could have eaten them after basking in the sun all day.

If you go to Canadohta you need to be fishing for the huge muskys in that Lake.  Otherwise I'd agree it is a colossal waste of time.   It's hard to even pull a bluegill outta there!  Muskys must be eating everything in there!

Thank god, I had to resort to using hot dogs to catch those damn bluegills.

That place SUCKS.

Is it? Normally I stick to Tamarack and Pyma. Kinda steered away from the musk last year, got too routine.

MuskyMastr -> RE: Canadohta (6/23/2008 2:24:13 PM)

I haven't fished it for about 10 yrs, but when I did, we always caught at least 1 in the low to mid 40's per trip.

bingsbaits -> RE: Canadohta (7/1/2008 6:48:43 AM)

Might as well stay away from here for a few days. They  sprayed the entire lake with herbicide.
Can't believe the pfbc lets them do that to the whole lake.
The cabbage bed that runs around the lake is the only structure for the fish.
I blame it all on CLABA..Canadohta Lake Bus. A$$es...They want the lake to be weed free like their swimming pools in Pittsburgh.
Same organization that has sponsored the fishing derby that utilizes the fish stocked in the lake to make money. Mabee they should put a little of that money towards fish stocking instead of herbicide.

bingsbaits -> RE: Canadohta (7/5/2008 6:49:49 AM)

I fired off an email to the Lake Authority about their weed spraying..
Gotta say the guy running that operation is a professional smoke blower.(Still have smoke coming out my a$$)

I asked them why they spray the lake....His reply was to keep the second largest natural lake in PA prestine....

He said it was sprayed to kill the invasive weed (Eurasian mill foil).I have fished this lake for 40 years there has never been enough mill foil to cause any kind if problems..It has only been sprayed in the last 10 years or so..

He also stated that the chemicals used don't kill the Broad Leaf Pond Weed that the fish like...I would think that a man that personally overseas the spraying would at least know what a Lilly Pad was. He did inform me that he used to work for the Bayer Corp. Chemical company. Guess a guy that earned his living selling chemicals would have a little different take on things...

The Lilly pad is not the predominant weed the fish use it is the cabbage bed that runs around the lake that holds most of the fish in the lake. That is now dead and dying. (what happens to all the baby fish hatched out that usually hide in the weeds?? Or the perch eggs layed on the weeds??) Gone!!!

Sorry for the rant...I really think it is a sucky idea killing all the weeds in a lake just to please a few out of towners who want to swim in a weed free pool.

Every spring they set out traps in the lake to catch muskys to milk them for eggs and then transplant the fry in other lakes all over the state.  They pull some monsters out of that lake every year.
