ORIGINAL: glenp I did not say that Ag is not to blame...I was responding to the post that implied that manure was being dumped in the creek. It is more likely that commercial fertilizer is the problem. However before you criticize agriculture, remember that many homeowners use the same commercial fertilizers. Sure, manure is not being dumped into the creek from the manure spreaders, but every time it rains, the manure floods into the stream. Not to mention the fact that constant spreading of manure can get into groundwater that feeds streams. Your post suggests that the farms manure goes into some kind of safe holding tank away from the stream and stays there. You and I both know it is there only until it is spread on the fields, and it eventually will wash into Spruce Creek. I drive past the farm every day on the way to my office, and it seldom happens that I dont see manure being spread on one of the fields. Yes, many home owners use fertilizer on their yards, but few do, and the ones that do, do it in insignificant amounts as compared to farms.
