Flyers 08-09 schedule is out.  Division games seem to have been reduced to 6 games from 8.  Does anybody no why?
Anyway the Flyers will be sweeping the Pens on the following dates:

Oct 14 @ Pitt
Nov 13 @ Pitt
Dec 13 @ Philly
Jan 13 @ Philly
Feb 21 @ Philly
Mar 22 @ Pitt

There is two less division games because everyone plays every team from the other conference at least once and some of them twice.

I'm glad they're going back to that this year.  8 division games is a bit much.  I did enjoy the division only play down the stretch, allowed for some serious movement in the standings, but I don't need to see the Flyers, Rangers, and Devils a total of 24 games...

Because they changed so that every team plays every other team at least once.  Check your schedule it will show that the Flyers, like the Penguins, will play every western conference team once.  And there will be three western conference teams they play twice.  For Pittsburgh tehey play Detroit, San Jose and Columbus twice each.

The NHL changed the way they schedule because a bunch of Western Conference teams were complaining that they wanted to get the ticket revenue boost of Mike Richards coming to their buildings more than once every couple years.

What's so funny?

Mike Richards doesn't pack the house at every away game?

yea, no kidding.

That is the real explanation about the schedule though, all western conf. teams once and three of them twice.

The Mike Richards part I made up and substituted his name for Sidney Crosby who actually does pack the house, in every city, every game.

I'm sorry, I kind of like the divisional games at the very last few games, made it more interesting. I can understand the western conference games which you see the whole gamut of the other conference. Wish they would have had like 4-5 division games to end the season, would have been fun to see.

Gotta love Mr. Schedule Maker.

Penguins have an 3 game, two four game, a five game, and an 8 game home stand.
From Mar 14 thru April 3 they won't have to travel.
Kryars one 3 game, one 4 game, and one 5 game home stand.

Twelve times the Penguins play on back to back nights.
Kryars 17.

During Football season, Penguins play 2 Sunday games. Oct 5 in Stockholm (Steelers play in JAX at 8:15)
and Jan 18 which would be during the playoffs. After Football season ends, they play at 3pm every Sunday
until April 5th when they play at 5pm. Guess we'll be ice fishing with a radio again next spring.

One thing's certain. 30% of any team's "fans", won't even pay attention to the scores, let alone the standings, or games themselves, until at least march.

Jeff Taffe had the most wicked playoff beard on the team, shame he never got to play.  Well, maybe not the most wicked, but he was on par with Talbot and Dupuis

What is that?  A mangina?

Why don't they play series like baseball does?  Too much bad blood to get boiled?  Too easy for opposing fans to travel with a few days of games?  Baseball is boring?

Just seems like it would make sense for the league on travel expenses, and likely be less fatigue on the players.  It seems like most days off, are travel days.  Oh well, they get paid a ton, to play a game they love.

Not sure why commenting on someone's playoff beard has to do with that, but if it makes you feel better about yourself fire away.

Eh, fan interaction is OK if there's no malice involved.  They were having some fun with the fans.  The fans hoot and holler to get the attention of the players and the players responded.  Those kids probably still talk about that.  The fans weren't throwing anything at them or on the ice and the Pens players pounded the glass a little, no biggie.  Funny thing is, all those players are gone now...  Malone, Ruutu, Laraque...
