I think tampa was smokin to give malone that kind of money, although they are clearing some cap space for us and haven't taken anyone that can't be replaced.

Redden is TERRIBLE.Look what he did the second half of last year, nothing but F-up's.You would think the Rangers would spend it on Jagr,he was tied for playoff lead in points until they got knocked out.

Who the heck is this guy Finger?Never heard of him and he gets a multi-million deal for a few years?

There must be crack involved.

Times are different than they were in 01. Jagr's still a great player. And so what he wanted to leave, we were going downhill fast. Who would want to be a part of that?
I remember a telecast during these playoffs with him saying he didn't mean that, and the circumstances were different than people thought.

I won't be surprised at all if we pick him up. And there'd be NO complaining with him putting the puck in the net off crosbys dishes.

The Jagr thing was a rumor started on Rogers Sportsnet.  The Pens contacted him to gauge is interest in playing here in case Hossa doesn't resign.  The main issue is Jagr said he wants to go somewhere that he'd be "The man"  Yeah, that's not here Bajaromir.

While I'm not thrilled with "Confessions of a Middle Aged Drama Queen" returning to Pittsburgh, I will say that I would be willing to give him a clean slate.  Rumor is he's matured and actually does act like an adult now...

The longer it goes, the better off the Pens are in the Hossa sweepstakes.  Obviously it's not about the money with him, according to TSN, the Oilers tossed some serious cash at him and he is still a free agent.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some teams are close to the cap and are going to need to jettison some players.  The big report on Edmonton is, if they sign Hossa, they'd need to move some other "high end" players for draft picks.

I can't see any possible need, or use for Jagr on this team. Granted they need a skilled shooter, but as a finisher, which Jagr has never been. The pens are going to be looking for someone with the speed to keep up with Crosby, or Malkin, but is a net driver as well, rather than a free skater.

I would be suprised, and disappointed if they sign him. Nothing against the guy. I just don't see him as a good fit, skill wise, or chemistry.

Ummm, here's the deal with Jagr.  It's a smoke screen by a very shrewd GM, Ray Shero.

Float rumors that you're interested in a top 10 all time NHL player, one who plays top line RW.  That makes big news nationwide.  Who else plays top line RW?  Marian Hossa.

That way you put the pressure on Hossa.  Make him sweat, because Pittsburgh is where Marian really wants to play.  It's his agent (Rich Winter) that wants him to take the biggest money, and Hossa is not standing up to him.

When Hossa signs, be it in Pittsburgh or else where, the Jagr contract offer (of which none has yet been made, according to several outlets) suddenly would be withdrawn.

F-Hossa

Canada's TSN is reporting that right wing Marian Hossa has signed a one-year deal worth $7.4 million with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Penguins would not confirm that report. However, they have been told by Hossa he will not re-sign.

I hope he NEVER wins a cup!!

He left over .4 mill!! To play in Detroit who cant even fill their stands during the playoffs....Man i hate him now...

if this Hossa signing is true are we going to have to "experience the revolution" again, like we did 3 years ago, where we are basically a team of kids other then the stars , hoping they pan out at a NHL level and 2 years away from making the playoffs again, and Jagr back here sickens my stomach, talented player still or not, IMO he's a distraction more so in the locker room then on the ice, he is all about him, like he was quoted as to saying he wants to be the star of the team with all the pressure on him, to me that says it all, he's still not a team player

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed Evgeni Malkin to a five-year contract extension commencing with the 2009-10 season, it was announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Good....

Yeah, we probably won't make the playoffs again. Ever actually. Because we lost a rent a player, a backup goalie, an oaf, an old man, and Ryan Malone.

We should just sell the team.

At least he signed quick, thus allowing Shero to sign some other players.  Also, Hossa is replaceable.  Granted not with one player, but you can sign two wingers, better than Malone, not as good as Hossa, and fill out your top 6.

I know I was pissed too.

Orpik gets signed. All I want to see him do is kill people.

Smallie,

I agree. They weren't doing all that bad before Hossa got here. He's a player that could have put them over the top, but there are others. He only signed for 1 year in hopes of getting a cup. Whether, or not that happens, he may want to come back to build a dynasy here the following season.

My guess would be that he signed a 1 year deal because after next season he will head back to Europe
to play in the new Super League. He took a 1 year big money deal to make 1 final attempt to get his name on the Cup.

Next year, he'll clean up over there, tax free.

I agree, no one that is gone is irreplacable.  Hossa brought a lot to the table, but there are a few others out there.....But we need to get busy, Old mother Shero's cupboard is getting bare....!

I saw that.  I give the Rangers credit, for years they were free spending, getting whoever it took to win.  Now even they realize when a player is not worth it.  That cap money is best spent elsewhere.
