If you're going to fish Erie for walleye, you should, IMO, be prepared with a variety of baits.  You never know when one will outproduce another.  Some of my personal favorites are as follow:

Cranks:  Reef Runners DD and Ripsticks, Storm thundersticks, Jimmy Lure, bombers to name a few...fire tiger seems to be the hottest color there for me.

Worm Harnesses:  I make my own, but harnesses outproduce all other lures for walleye in the central to eastern basin for me.  I know the guys out west swear by the cranks and spoons.  I say its simply because its less work running them and less mess if you're using live crawlers, so thats pretty much all they use. Hot colors are watermelon, kevorkian/purple/pink, orange crush and black/purple combinations.

Has anyone tried to use a bucktail treble as a stinger rather than a plain treble on the worm harness  or for that matter replacing the treble on a spoon by one that is dressed ?

I am thinking about doing that but wonder if it is worth the effort.

I doubt it would make any difference considering the stinger is imbeted into a big fat worm!

if your rippin harness at 1.5 its too fast in the cold water go harness at .08 as far as 1.3 spoons you can run all up to 3.2mph as far as distance use a 6to a 8ft leader depth will go range from as little as 65ftto as far 215 pending on setting of dipps i can run as many as 12 rodsbut stick around 8 to 10 i dont have my boards set up yet ill use wire dips and down rigger and few or no tangles all depend on the fish when hooked up and whos at the helm its a art now back in the 80s you could go out drunk def dumb stupid or all of the above and catch fish i still turn my buds on the numbers and they forget they go too fast/ slow color lure depth bums me out some times when we compair will fish this weekend and post my find

We slowed down our trolling speed yesterday and caught more eyes using dipsy's than normal.  Those new Fishlander Willow blades I tied up looked and worked great.  We caught fish on all the colors, though Boy/Girl did catch more than the rest.  Not really fair though, cause we had to drop down to 4 rods instead of 6 due to the waves.  one to threes my arse.  We ran into 5-6 foot rollers out there and coming back was a virtual shower of lake water spray.

Again, thanks for all the help on harnesses and trolling speed everyone.  And I want to put in a plug for those fishlander blades that i got from Carpetbagger.  Though some days you can catch fish on anything, I believe that those blades are very enticing.  Those eyes mangled a few of my wire leaders they were hookd so hard.  We had no light hooks sets.

I'm heading up tomorrow or Tues.  Slay, what kind of depth were you fishing?  I heard near the edge of the first trench was the ticket these days.  Anyone else?

Fishlander blades are no more.  Bagger's Baits opens next week with a whole new color line and an even better paint job!

I am liquidating the rest of my current stock...PM me for details.

Took a monster on saturday out there 10.6 lbs bled out my biggest this year

ShutUpNFish,
I dunno exactly where we were, but I believe we were near the lip of the trench.  We Launched straight out of Elk and headed west, trolling maybe 6 miles down.  We caught all our eyes in 55 feet of water, and they were all pretty much on the bottom. Once we left that depth the fishfinder was dead.  We wasted too much time exploring. Find the fish, then troll back over them.  Big Dipsy's on the number 3 setting 120-140 feet back.

Good luck, I wish I could go every day.
