I was at a local Wal-Mart this weekend searching for lures and artificial bait to buy to get ready for Bass season. I ended up walking out of there literelly discussed! Can anyone please tell me what actual Rapala MODEL NUMBERS to buy for bass fishing ON SHORE. I searched other forums and got advice and Wal-Mart did not sell a single model number I got from the other forums I searched. Any and all help is appreciated since I am a new fisherman.

experiment, theres no secret code, just pick up 5 or 6 lures you like and see which ones work better than the others...

there isn't a rapala made that won't catch bass at one time or another. which one you'd want to buy would depend on when and where you plan on fishing.

You don't say where you're fishing but in ponds and shallow streams begin with the ones that look like minnows which is probably what your bass are eating.  I'd start with floating silver and black #7's and #9's.  Then experiment from there.  The above posters are correct, bass will hit most rapalas but I'd suggest "matching the hatch" first.

Get some fishing magazines such as Bassmasters & Field & Stream. Soon you'll have hundreds (or thousands) of lures like the rest of us!  [sm=fun_84.gif]

Don't forget it's not just the lure but how you fish them.




P.S.  I just noticed you asked about "something else".  You're going to need a bigger tackle box!


Tubes, plastic worms, senko types, spinnerbaits, etc, etc, etc.  They all work, if you learn to fish them correctly.

After buying $700 of rapalas in my life i still dont know which is the best. They all work good for me. I know in summer when its hot i will use black and silver original floaters in ponds and do really well. A slow stop and twitch retrive works.

I caught two crappies pushing 15" yesterday on a 12ft deep running rapala.

I have been pretty lucky with the smaller raps..F-5, F-7, Mabee a countdown or 2. They will cast alot farther.
We have been doing quite well this year on the Brook trout color and some of the newer models with the red hooks and lips.

I really wish the "Fat Rap" was still made. I have about 6 left but when they go that's it.
IMHO, one of the fish catchinist (my new word, LOL) crankbaits ever made.

Number 5 shadrap in silver/ black, will catch everything in the lake or pond you fish. Get a couple f-3's too. Chartreuse/ white and perch color are deadly from shore.

I really like the DT series. I caught 4 in an hour at a golf course pond yesterday. I always do good with the bluegill pattern. What is nice about crankbaits, and some may disagree, but I think they are an easier bait to fish. Most of the time cast and retrieve will work. Sometimes stop and go, twitch, things like that but normally C and R works just fine.

You really can't go wrong with any of Rapala's lures.  I've caught bass on all of them at one point or another.  Good model numbers to start with are F7, F9, J7, J9, SR5, SR7, SSR5, and SSR7.  Those are all model numbers for shad raps and floating minnows.
