Panfisher -> High Point Lake (5/5/2008 12:43:44 PM)

I heard that High Point Lake is down about 10 feet.  Can any one verify this?  If that is true it would be hard to launch a boat there.

If High Point is down 10 feet, it's a creek channel, most of the end by the launches isn't more than 12 feet deep.

i believe it. i drove around it early april and there were a lot of stumps out of the water. the boat launch on the left side of the lake was basically useless. it was only inches deep for about 30 feet out from shore.

George: i was there about 10 days ago and it might be down 2 vertical feet from full pool i'd guess. I was going to ask the fish comission if it was going to go any lower and i forgot. The deputy told me they were working at the breast during ice fishing season and said that is why it was down. He did say they may lower it more at the end of the year so i'm hoping they do it and maybe some of the weeds will get killed of.

We were catching crappies of about 9 1/2 t0 10 inchs last week at the lake where you dropped your rod but twice now these cold fronts have moved them away from shore.

Thanks Dave
Is it possible to launch a boat from High Point then?  I might go there but not sure.

The crappies I caught where you say you got the nice ones, all I caught were small ones there.  They probably moved like you said.  I was beginning to wonder though if there are any big ones in there this year.

If they drain it enough, I might be able to find some fish in that lake...  Although I have been getting better there each trip. [:D]

George: I've either caught 30 to 40 each trip from 9 1/2 inchs on up or did really poor. Today i caught 3 around 11 inchs plus a legal walleye from shore. I ended up keeping 11 crappie and the walleye but caught about 10 more crappie that were really short. I'm hoping if the weather doesn't change they will be back in the normal spots tomorow. Where you dropped your rod i caught as many today as anywhere but most were small there.

I called the fish comission and if i understand right they may lower high point a little more to do some work and they plan a bigger drawdown starting in sept. They did not think it would be posted against ice fishing if it does get lowered a lot. I sure hope they lower it at least 7 or 8 vertical feet.

I think the south launch is at a pretty shallow angle but believe the north launch is steeper. If your boat is light enough you always could push it off. If you decide to hit high point on a calm day let me know and i'll also head up there and maybe between 2 of us we can find some fish
