does anyone know of any streams where i can catch some nice trout?  im looking for some lunkers, and all we have caught this year are small ones.     went to indian creek last night and had a nice one on but it got off.....   thanks for any reply's

any stream in western PA that gets stocked with trout has large fish in it unless someone put them on a stringer.  Try the yough river in confluence.

I agree with the Yough at confluence, and the fact that any stream around here that gets stocked has big fish in it. The only problem is that most of those stocked lunkers have probably been caught already. If they haven't I guarantee that they've seen every single lure in the world already. I saw some guy pull a 26 inch brown out of Enlow Fork in Washington County. It was a real nice fish, but the guy said he fished for him almost 3 hours before he even got him to blink.

I've seen some bruisers at the dam in Connelsville on the Yough.  Getting them to hit is another story.

Last week there were still some big ones at Montour....I'm in Ohio for the summer, so pm me if you want the hole I found them in. Its a little off the trail and people dont like to walk more than 10 steps so nobody gets to it. There were 3 palies there, one HUGE ONE....and a TON of fish in this hole.

You must not be much of a fisherman. I routinely catch fish over 15 inches at the Yough all times of the year. Try spending some time fishing, oh wait you want a bunch of brood trout dumped at your doorstep.

The Yough not only the tailraces, but all the way down to Sutersville, has plenty of huge trout.  Not much fishing pressure either.  The fish stocked by the clubs goes a long way.  Trout can be caught year round in the Smithton area.

countryboy, judging from the majority this thread should answer your question for you.  If you want a chance to target bigger trout head to the yough from tailraces to smithton.  Miles of water full of potential.

Well as other people have stated the Yough is the place to be but you will have to put some time into fishing. If you have fished mostly smaller stream and creeks then Confluence is the place for you. It is no where near as broad as smithton and the holes are much more defined. If you head down to Smithton get some pointers from the guys there they will help you alot.

As for the other Idiots on here throwing insults you have to kinda overlook that and you will see who provides good info and

GMPW is corect. One very challenging part of the yough is the size. It is huge. There are holding areas all over the place through out. Some look great and have nothing going on, some look like nothing and are holding tons, but that could also be said for a lot of streams too.

I'm finding out this year that a lot of places I wouldn't look twice at hold better than some of the places I spent most of last year, but thats just me.

I had an hour away from the fam and hit the Yough above Smithton last year.  Fished nice looking pockets and got nothing, so I was walking down the shore absentmindedly casting to large open water and caught a nice 18 rainbow.  They are there, however you find them.

Certainly takes quite a while fishing the Yough to gain any kind of mastery over it.  It's just so vast, but that's what I like.  Plenty of room.  I bought $30 worth of buttons for my deadbeat partners that I know are too lazy to get them.  Support the clubs.  They do a fantastic job.

What club stocks above the old Stoneys Plant in Smithton ? Fished there this year for the first time an was really impressed with the size and amount of fish i caught, i'm willing to contribute if i can get info.

That'd be Smithton Sportsmen and Conservation Association. See this link:

There are several others on the Youghiogheny to include West Newton, South Connellsville, Yough Area, and Sutersville. From time to time there are others. I have always found that these clubs do a fantastic job and the cost of joining is quite worth it for those who can.
