Just wondering if anyone will watch, bet, etc. on the race today and if so, who is your pick? I know Big Brown is the favorite, but i'm going with Pyro to win. Should be a great race no matter who pulls it out in the end.

I plan on watching BUt I don't know enough to put any money on it.......But if I did I would probably go with Colonel John  Look for him to finish strong

LMAO,

I don't know a lot, but I bet Pyro to win, Colonel John second. I can't believe you guys picked the same two
horses. Hope that's a good sign.

WOW, I have Pyro #1, Colonel John #2, and Big Brown #3. Big Brown is huge, what a horse. But they were having problems with his feet and this will be a muddy track. I also saw a few of the " girls " in the race, could be shocker pulled out by one of them. Here's a sleeper for you, keep and eye out on #19, Gayego....I'll be happy with Pyro or Colonel John as the winner.

WOW, Glad i didn't bet the house on that one. Big Brown was just too fast. I think that's the first time time though i have ever heard of them actually putting a horse to sleep right on the track. That Filly came in 2nd. and ran a heck of a race. I didn't see her keel over just all the fuss afterwards, what a shame, she was a runner!

I played 4 exactas.

9-10
20-9
20-10
20-5

I hate betting favorites. It's not as fun.
I couldn't resist Big Brown with all the hype.
So I parred him with the horses I liked and the only Phillie in the race. Dumb luck.
My $8 got me $140. Now, I need that to work with tonight's powerball.

It's a shame what happened to her. It's amazing that horse could run that fast, that far,
then break both ankles when it went to stop.

Im no tree hugger or anything but horse racing is just a rich form of animal cruelty. The only reason that horse was injured is because she was too young to be put at that type of endurance. And the only reason she was put down is because she was no good to them anymore. No sportsmanship in this type of racing anymore.

I usually watch, but missed it this year.  Its a shame what happened.  Makes you wonder if Nightowl is right.

nightowl207 -> RE: Kentucky Derby (5/3/2008 11:56:19 PM)

Im not saying horse racing is wrong. Just the manner they go about it. They should have a minimal age set to even run these horses. They run these horses so young that there not even old enough to be riden let alone riden and pushed over their potential. They use these animals for their entertainment and toss them to the glue factory when they cant compete anymore. There used to be a bond between the man and the animal. The riders wanted to win and so did the horses. Today when i saw that horse go down and the rider just walked away, pissed that he didnt win, it was sickening. Its all about the rich mans money and entertainment anymore.

"And the only reason she was put down is because she was no good to them anymore."

She broke BOTH ankles.  Nothing they could have done for her.  Sad, but the only reason she existed was to race.  She came from racing bloodlines.

In today's derby even todays longshot is still a horse none of us could afford.  Starting to become the filthy rich's cockfight.
