I'm new to French Creek and kayaking.  Can anyone tell me where the creek that drains Geneva Swamp intersects with French Creek?  Also, where is the nearest access point to this intersection on French Creek?  Thank you!  Roy

I don't fish above Cochranton but if you look at google earth, you can see where the swamp drains in not too far upstream from the bridge  There also appears to be an access point at the confluence.  Maybe someone who uses that can chime in with better information for you.

Seriously though, that whole deal seems a little odd to me. I know that last year they advertised the tournament and it's dates were when bass season was closed. I called the regional office about it.
I fish alot of tournaments but this one makes me shudder at the thought of all the roped fish like the ones in the pics.

As far as LM, I caught ONE but it was right at the confuence of French Creek and the Allegheny.

It does seem odd.  If I am not busy that weekend maybe I'll check it out although I may have too many teeth.  I notice they will have wings.  No wonder I haven't seen many chickens, buzzards, pigeons and other fowl birds up there lately.

I knew the river has LM, I have just never heard of any caught in FC.  I can see someone fishign the pnds and dragging in a heavy LM sayign it came from the creek.  Hmmm, gives me ideas.  Wonder how long one can keep a LM alive in an aquarium tank!

Roy,
Geneva swamp outflow is about a mile north of Cochranton. The PFBC has an access area at the mouth called Shaw's Landing.

I live in pittsburgh and i have a cabin along french creek near sagerstown.  I go up mainly to fish the creek but sometimes take the boat to erie.  With it being a two hour drive, it is sometimes a useless trip if the creek is high or muddy, thus unfishable.  So i was wondering if anyone is near the area that could give me a creek status in terms of fishability.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I live in Franklin the creek is currently running clear and at what I would call medium depth as far as water flow.

I use this river gauge at Utica. Generally speaking you can usually have the best fishing as well as water clarity when the gauge is 3' or under.  I prefer it to be between 2' and 2 1/2 '. Much higher you get into faster water and faster water is often muddy on the creek.

You folks that are fishing Frenchcreek all know about the Three Toed Wowser that sneaks up on unsuspecting fisherfolks, deposits their eggs and when they hatch they turn you into a golfer, stay away from Frenchcreek for fear of your life(style).

Have two relatives who own camps on French Creek.  One is in Saegertown and the other is in Cochranton.  Have not fished either in years.  What is the best live bait to use from shore.  Not really interested in carp/suckers (all I used to catch up there years ago).  Taking my nephew to one or the other at the end of July.  Any bass, walleye, pike, or big catfish?  Thanks!!

I don't use live bait but minnows, crawfish and worms work well.  The creek holds all you mentioned plus more species but I've never seen catfish.  Lots of carp though.

Thanks for the info. Everyone seems to think that minnows and crawlers would be my best bet.  Any need to try shiners or suckers as bait?

That's good to know.  I'll have to watch for them.  In what area have you seen them?

I suppose you could.  Your best bet fishing in a stationary position from shore is probably nighcrawlers.  Minnows would be second.
