Fishing Kinzua (Full Version)

I love going to Kinzua. However, it usually ends up just being a nice boat ride. I find it a very tough lake to fish. I was planning on a trip perhaps in mid may. I would like to go for eyes. The only place I have ever had any luck was Willow Bay. Can anyone give me some tips on the place for eyes? Where to go what to use in mid May? Down riggers? Flat line? any help would be great.

The big secret up north.  I have never done very good up there.  I usually fish willow bay also.  I tried down by the Dam last spring and had no luck at all.

Flip jigs and crawlers, leeches or minnies in the timber or over structure.  You should catch a nice mixed bag this way too.  You could also try slow trolling harnesses with a bottom bouncer alonh the points and structure at depths you are marking fish.  If you don't like trolling, you may want to give that a try until you find some fish then slow down and do some flipping or vertical jigging over deeper structure.

kinzua is as "tight-lipped" as it gets. from locals to sporting goods stores next to nobody talks.

imo its a tough place to fish. one thing i know for a fact is STRUCTURE, STRUCTURE, STRUCTURE. if you have an aqua vu camera it works great on kinzua. lake is very clear.

imo the best place to get info is at www.grisslygary.com  . gary was/is a fisherie moderator so i guess its okay to post his site. go into forums and you will find a lot of kinzua info. gary will answer any questions you have.

The old railroad bed or go north of Willow Bay almost to the end where it gets shallow.
Trees are a navigation hazard because they are just under water.
For PA try Willow Bay or Sugar Run.
South of Red Bridge Campground there are cribs near the end of the bay, My boat runs to deep to get back to them but you can see them from shore when water is low.

Give up and go to the Willows or Corydon Hotel for fish fry[:@]

Yep. Fished the zoo for nearly 35 years religiously. Hardest lake you will ever learn. That's why it is so "tight lipped" by the locals.  Everything is earned here. Heck, I'm still learning!  But once you figure her out al little, she will rival most lakes east of the Mississsippi.   Not in size like Erie, but in quality of edible fish.
