because 500 of them are people wondering if they want to burn off 3$ a gallon for gas to go catch nothing. i have personally viewed this thread a couple times when a response is posted in hopes of seeing someone say the action is turning on. i myself have never been much of a striper fisherman and would only consider tossing 25$ in gas if i knew i had a fighting chance of catching something.

just being honest

MICK FISH -> RE: Arthur (5/9/2007 9:55:44 PM)

Almost 10pm now and I am heading out to the garage to hook up the boat.  Water has got to be warming up!  Will let you guys know how it went.

Stillhead -> RE: Arthur (5/9/2007 9:58:52 PM)

It's May 9th and we've had a week of incredibly nice weather.  Water temps. have reached mid 60's during afternoon.

If that right there is not enough info. to make someone go out and do some fishing, then in my humble opinion that person is not much of a fisherman and does not deserve to be given much info.

I don't know of any major wiper busting activity yet, I will say that. I will also say that there are many different species of fish being caught in lake Arthur and probably every body of water in the state. Get out and fish and find out.

Sorry, really not trying to be a jerk, I've helped plenty of people out and don't mind doing it. But it does bother me a little bit that someone would complain about lack of info. being posted on a website.  The few guys who go out early in any season for any type of fishing, do so because they know when it first heats up the fishing will be well worth all the skunked trips they have made before trying to find fish. It's not fair to those guys who put out the effort to be there when the fishing is hit or miss, so maybe they can get into some fish with nobody else around, only to have someone just go and blab to everybody on the planet.

Go Fish somewhere

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (5/9/2007 11:05:03 PM)

  Ok/ , thanks, I'm gonna give it another try after midnight. Will make it 11 of the past 13 night/mornings fishin for em [sm=birthday.gif]

spoonchucker -> RE: Arthur (5/10/2007 3:01:53 AM)

The place is infested with channel cats, and they are hitting.

MICK FISH -> RE: Arthur (5/10/2007 4:26:20 AM)

After 4am now and just got home.  Everything was perfect tonight except the bite...there was NONE!!!  Water was like glass, marked heavy concentrations of big fish anywhere from 3 to 8 ft down in anywhere from 10 to 20 fow, alewives were surfacing all around, but no smacks from feeding fish!!!  Must have made 300 casts, threw out a bobber with a minnie while casting, and even tried a little trolling...nothing worked!  There were quite a few other boats out, especially earlier and nobody seemed to be doing anything.  Anyone know anything different???  I hope your right about the trips when you get skunked eventually paying off Stillhead!!![:D]

unclekrch -> RE: Arthur (5/10/2007 11:57:13 AM)

I moved to D.C. but on my back this weekend to fish. use to live five minutes from the lake. If the alewives are making noise the strippers can't be to far behind. Went fishing here for the first time on Tuesday for "ROCK FISH" caught three in the 40" range

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (5/10/2007 1:09:12 PM)

   Fished it from 1:00 am 'til 4:50 am. A 1/2 hr. after the 1/2 moon rose it finally happened for me. A nice snail on top water. That's not easy to do you know? [sm=brow2.gif] A guy at the gas station said they were feedin like crazy at 6:00 am on Tues.

Btw, Timmy caught 25 bass & some slabs the last two evenings & I get skunked again [sm=belch.gif] I should stick to house work. Oh well the snail will make a nice addition to the bait tank.

 "If the alewives are making noise the strippers can't be to far behind."

One would certainly assume so, but they have been going for a week, or more, and very few fish seem to be keying on them. I don't know what is going on. I know there is a good daytime bite, but the night bite just isn't happening yet. There is an incredible amount of Gizzard Shad in the Muddy creek arm, which may be playing a part.

Icastalot -> RE: Arthur (5/10/2007 4:44:45 PM)

PLN,
I totally agree with you. It takes a good hour an a half for me to get there. And then I stay up all night and end up being super tired for work the next day.

sagebrush -> RE: Arthur (5/10/2007 6:14:41 PM)

Two weeks ago my buddy caught a 10 pounder and my other buddy had two explosive strikes on topwaters.  They weren't busting but they were definitely cruisin'.

i really dont think its fair to tell everyone to "get out and fish and find out". granted there may be some abusers but i think most of us have allready been out and about at this point. my fishing season started in february and thus far i have been to turtle creek, twin lakes, northmoreland, virgin run, dunlap, loyalhanna lake and creek, laurel hill lake and creek, greenlick, bridgeport,  quemahoning, up and down the whole yough, the mon, mahoning dam, glade run, arthur, connoqenessing and probably a couple others i forgot. according to my log book im fast approching 200 bass allready for this year, 100+ trout, a couple walleye and misc other fish in smaller numbers.

fact is ive been out to fish quite a bit. i have also postd on here many times where i fish, what i fish with and what i caught. this paranoia about people crowding spots is lame. i believe i read somewhere this state has more fishable waterways and lakes then any other state. if not its gotta be damn close. none the less i think if someone happens to be in anyone hole there are plenty more to choose from somewhere else. i dont know about anyone else but i want other people to catch fish. i like to see other people have a good time. three days ago a guy pulled up to the conny while i was there and asked if i did any good. i told him i was slamming smallies on watermelon and red flake gitzits. he didnt have any so i gave him a handfull and a bunch of tube inserts and i went and fished the same hole with some guy i never met before and we both caught a bunch of fish. dude was so pumped that at one point we both hooked up at the same time and he screamed out "double". i have tons of situations where ive done that before and tons where someone has done it for me. the older i get and the more i see ignorant people the more it tickles me when i see people be nice and te more it makes me want to be that way also.

look im not saying anyone or everyone should be like me and be so forthcoming with info they have on hot spots or give away lures to people to catch fish. hell i dont expect anyone to tell me where thier hot spot is at all. but if someone cant even be so courteous as to simply tell someone if the bite is on or not then thats pretty sad. especially since some of us have to drive pretty damn far to get to some of these places. i dont think any of us are asking for fish in a barrel, just a fighting chance.

actually, why does this forum even exist if not to provide some insight into whats going on fishing wise in southwestern pa?

and dont worry im not targeting you on this even though i quoted your post. although truthfully your post was the basis for my rant. ive seen you post great information on here before. i know it can be frustrating when it seems like you know where its hot and nobody else does or vice versa. all i can say is what goes around comes around so i just try to "pay it forward".

  Kevin,

just got off the phone with the old lady & she said Timmy caught a 40" Carp this eve. on a lure. Man I would of loved to see that battle. Prob. pulled his little boat purdy good [sm=dance.gif]. He took a pict. of it & let it go. That would be a trophy of my fishin times. He's still down the lake now. I'll either go down around 1 am or 5 am this morn.

Later

The last one caught that long was recorded in 2000 a 40''er. Some old guy 83 down there said Timmys was around 40 lbs.
He ended up catching it on 6lb. test with no net or help in his chest waders on a 2'' swimbait. Some lady & guy took a bunch of pict. of him with it.

The baitfish were in close last night. Look for Herron for the hot spots, they are a dead give away.

Plnoldrick,

Like I said I have no problems helping others out.   I don't really care to post some things on the internet though, I'm sure there are others who feel the same way, and that may be the reason there wasn't any info. posted. It just bothered me that someone would complain because nobody responded.

If I had that long of a drive and had to be somewhere the next day, I'd probably wait until the obvious peak of the season in a few weeks and come then.

As far as helping others,  in the last month alone I've taken the time to rig lines and teach technique to no less than two dozen people. I think I've helped my share, most people who come and ask nicely I'm more than willing to help out.  The jag-offs who have attitudes or something smart to say because I'm catching fish and they are not, they can take a flying leap.

I've put a lot of time, money and effort to learn what I know and that time and effort is a big part of the game for me.  I think I've earned the right to decide who I get to share that with, and posting on an internet site takes away that ability of knowing who I shared with.

Head up in 3 weeks, they'll be going crazy.

i totally understand.

p.s. thanks for the tip. i rarely target stripers but i think if i do make the drive im gonna attempt them with ultra light tackle. i might string up one of my bass reels with 4lb line and toss it on a small trout rod. i miss fishing for snook in florida and that might be as close to it as im gonna get anytime soon. if ya see a guy with a camo backback and a bunch of i helped stock the yough pins wearing aviators gimme a shout.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (5/11/2007 7:02:13 PM)

  Pln,

if you go ultra light plan on eatin them, especially June tru Aug. they fight theirself to death in warmer water on that outfit. Some young studs on here can fish it 24-7. They don't need to work [sm=dunno.gif]. Hope I can retire in 5 yrs.

I like snow cones, [sm=birthday.gif], Crappy

rippinlip -> RE: Arthur (5/11/2007 8:41:13 PM)

Chris...congrats to Timmy on the big carp...can you post a pic?   You must be proud he is a good fisherman
