Has anyone ever fished at night with a little rain? It is looking like a little rain tommorow night and I am dying to get out. Never been out at night in the rain. Wondering if the bite completely shuts off.

I love fishin in the rain. Hope the cooler weather & some rain will make the bait come in back on time for this time of year. Can't remember them commin in so early it's like the first week of July down there.

Well, with the weather forecast for this evening I decided to give it a go, thinking it would keep a lot of others from going.  Don't know if it did or not, but there were still a pile of people down there!  Bait was on the shore lines well before dark.  The smacking started at exactly 9:30 when it got dark, and stayed pretty heavy for a while.  I caught one striper at 10pm.  Only managed one other fish, a nice largemouth, and by midnight the action had all but died!  Started over towards the dam around 12:30, but there were way too many boats over there, so I called it a night.  Talked to quite a few shore fishermen on the way out, and the reports were not near as good as last night.

I think our secret spot everyone knows about is about done for the year.  The fish are still there, but the weeds have grown up enough in the last six days that all we get every cast is weeds.  Very frustrating hearing fish exploding close to the boat and not being able to put a good cast on them.  I was thinking about maybe trying a banjow minnow.  Anyone ever tried them at night for stripers.  I love them during the day for largemouth and pike, but that's more sight fishing and I don't know if they would make enough commotion on top of the water to use to immitate an alewife.  Any thoughts.

I tried them a few years ago, well, not the original banjo, but a zoom fluke.  I couldn't do any good with them in the dark. Thought about maybe trying to insert some rattles in them, that might help.

I tried the zoom flukes last spring and landed only 1 fish.  Granted it as a 18 inch smallie, but this of course was a week after we spent 2 days pounding 5 lb bass in Erie, so even that sucked.

That's kind of what I was thinking, stillhead.  I was thinking a rattle and maybe even squirting some air in them with a surringe to keep them constantly on the surface.  My buddy says he saw you get a walleye the other night on the second or third cast.  Were you targeting them, or just another pesky eye eating your lure.

Yeah, I was sort of targeting them, or hoping to catch them anyway.  I thought I was going to tear'em up, all I could catch was bass after that.

It was a gorgeous night with a ultralight ugly stick that I ran over twice in the conversion van before I even got to use it. It still had no prob. handlin 25" byrds. Gotta love that rain. Kevin, (striper Guide) wanna take the weed wacker out this eve? lEtT mE nOkW/oK/? Guess who I ran into at Wal*Mart with a Ironhead shirt on?/

One less backcast per cast should mean 10% to 20% more fish in a day.

Has anyone else noticed that the past two weeks, the time the stripers really turn on varies drastically.  I'm talking like three to five hours different within a couple days.  Just wondering if the whole lake has been like that, or if it's just our spots that we've been fishing.

I noticed the last two nights, it has started later and later.  The bait was there early, but no smacks until 10:30 or 11.  I have not seen anything like 3-5 hours difference though.  Try moving around to different parts of the lake if they are not "on" where you are at.  One thing I have learned this year is that these stripers are all over the lake.  No longer do we tolerate the fools coming in and fishing on top of us.  We will simply reel in and head somewhere by ourselves and catch fish.  Different parts of the lake definately hold fish at different times.

Guess we'll have to explore a little more tonight.  They are definitely practically everywhere in that lake, at different times.

well well well. Here is another Big Boy I caught.  I guess some of you Trans mam included( how you ever got an expert angler rating with all those little white bass it must have taken a lifetime)  will say i found it dead along the shore or ran over it with my boat or some other jelous comment like that( in respose to my musky).  Maybe you just dont catch big fish to often so you dont know how to respond when you see one.  You boys keep catching thoese white bass it must be really fun. Funny thing is i caught this mother on a 11 inch white bass.  So you nice folks are catching my Bait. Not to be critical

Nice cat.

About the musky thing,  if I caught a giant musky like that,  it wouldn't make any difference to me whether or not a bunch of guys on a website believed it or not.   I hope to get one soon, so I can post a picture of it on here and have everyone not believe me.

Ok then I wont be mad at the musky comments but in defence of the picture i caught the fish at 930 in the morning and took the picture at 12:30 am at night it sat in my livewell with no water because my batteries had died for 15 hours in 85 degree weather. so it had had a very bad day!!

JD, Way to go. I cant go to Canada this year with the Bronder group and I hear you are not going also. I was the only one who backed you on the musky story cause I got the email from Walt and the details from Lou Obradovich when you did the catereing job at his place. Nice to see the good guy gets the big-ones!!!!!!!!!

I had two firsts tonight, one good & another bad. Last night Timmy had two trebble hooks straighten on a bomber from a striper. I change my hooks on them because it happened too many times to me. Tonight I had one of my biggest stripers on ever with a bomber with new hooks. (Bad) part is the split ring original new broke & the big one got away again Anybody ever have this problem with them? What is the best split ring to buy?

The good first is I caught three alwive at the same time on the three treble hooks & none of them damaged the rings or hooks

Now who can solve my problem, and grant my lifelong wish., Are fishermen all big liars? Or do liars only fish?

I caught a ten pound catfish the other night on a bomber off the top, and it destroyed the hooks.  Broke the o ring off one of the hooks, and bent the other two.  Aside from that, I can't think of any hook problems from the bomber meeting a big striper.  But I'll definitely think about replacing the origional hooks if it sounds like people are having problems.  Thanks for the heads up crappie.

I used to have problems with the hooks on Bombers. They changed over last year, so not so much anymore. Those d@mned cats tear up any treble hook.

Mike (top water cat king), I noticed that about the hooks, but I still like to change them if I remember. Timmys two hooks were the new version . Nice taklin to you at Wally World.

Speaking of the Bomber lures, is which one do you guys use mostly for the stripers ? I would think the Pop'n Shrimp since its top water one they have, but would love to hear your opnions as well since any advice is helpful.

Thanks
