I must have my depth finder sensativity turned up way too high.  I could swear there is a thermocline in the deeper water???  I always thought, this is why live bait dies so quick when fishing it deep too?

That's good to know, but the plan is to still tell the wife that I need out ASAP, to "avoid the turnover".  And not the truth, that I need out ASAP before I go insane!!!

your not mistaken, arthur has a thermocline.

Looks like a cold front moving through early next week.  Hopefully it doesn't do enough cooling to start the process.  If so, at least I'll have an excuse for not catching!

The bass have been feeding well these past few days. The toad has still been my ticket pulled over the pads. Good luck all. Most of the bass Ive pulled out lately have been 2-3lbs which is much bigger than my average  over the summer. Have been fishing in the afternoon (1-3). 2 of the 3 days out had a lot of feeding activity occurring. All of the fish caught were close to shore.

Donnie,

With all the money I'm saving rolling pipe tabaco cigs & drinking cheap beer figured I could spend a little.
Thanks for the tips

Matt sold his two boats & I needed a couple short fat ones I could throw in the van & slam the doors. They should be great fish/hunt/trap boats for hard to get places & between ice outs. Tim & Greg went out for about a 1/2 hr. before dark in one this eve. & Greg caught a Pike over 3' & some bass.

Give me a call when u can go slam toothie critters or whatever besides steel asp. The kids will be in trees next month. The bait tank is fully stocked with super lively ast. critters ready to get ate.

Crappy

Kevin,
Timbo wants to do that over his trailor

  Hey Joe,

Welcome aboard.... my buddy & I are gonna hit the hidden lake (old pay lake) off Hooker Rd. in a week or two. He stays at the old house there sometimes. That place has a 40' drop off.

8 years ago I could walk out the back door & hunt birds all day. Not like that anymore. Raise/ lett go around 60 ringnecks each summer & saved some breders for the next spring. Now to get the lunker L/M my son Greg put in the bait yesterday   Gotta go.......

The old pay lake is out past the school about a mile where the bad bend with the yellow arrow signs, bottom of the hill (no winter maintenance} It's a catch & release perm only lake.

I live close to L/A family campground. The kids keep a few big bass, some big cats & a couple pike to put in some of the 6 farm ponds walking dist. from the house. The ponds don't get fished enough & they put 'em in so the panfish stay large. My one son & I are the only ones that eat fresh fish at home so we throw back most. Lake Arthur was loaded with fowl yesterday. Hope to get out later today with a friend.

I was finally able to get a good day of fishing in with my little girl and father in law.  We mostly hit the western section of the lake, dam, 5 Points and McDaniels.  According to Mr. O'Donnell, the lake has turned over.  It was pretty amazing what the depth finder was showing in the deep water, but no action there.  I'm assuming they are still rather confused by the water mix, could have been schools of shad, I wasn't getting the offering to them with the wind, or the wrong offering, regardless, I have never seen my fish finder so full without a single take???  That was fine by us (besides the 7-8 anticipating to frustrating passes), as we were more in search of action than size (although would have been nice to have both).  Getting out of the wind, and into a calm cove also extended our Captain's time limit.  We got onto some weed edges and downed trees.  The gills, perch and largemouth didn't seem to be too affected by the water mix (couldn't find any crappie though).  Nothing really big at all, but enough action to keep us all entertained.

The island by the dam is filled with acorns, for anyone else who's fishing trips are more about entertaining the little ones than fishing.

All in all a great trip.  Hoping to get out again soon!

Went for cats at a farm pond this afternoon & didn't even get a nibble in 3 1/2 hrs. hit Arthur 45 min. before dark for some catfish bait. The L/M were on the move in groups/pods ov 3 -5, couldn't believe how many. Haven't seen bass like that since the mid. 70's. Perch were in some nice little groups also. Went through all my chubs before it got dark.

I was only down there for about 35 min.. Could see some smaller 5" - 7" papermouths but the chubs I was using were too big for 'em. The bass were in the 13" - 18" range  & they were on the move, sortta like traffic on a rd. pretty cool to see.

Hit the farm pond that I was skunked at yesterday for the last hr. of light. Tried for a cat or 2 with no hits. The Crappie 12" - 17" were on the feed bag like crazy. They were smacking a red power trout worm cut 1.5", 2' under a float on a sz, #12 hook. Put a pile of them (Crappie) in about 4" over the last 20 some years, glad to see 'em doing o/k. Dang things only grow about one inch a year in PA. The sm. pond near hideaway lake over your way should be on fire for 'em this week.

Later

I hit Moraine last year at this time, and got lucky on timing. Every other cast was a nice fat largemouth.Spinnerbaits real slow. Gotta love it when they put the feedbag on for winter.

 Justin,

I was in a camo boat 'till about 1.5 hrs. after dark. I hit up by you for the last hr. of light. The fishin' was great everywhere I marked fish today. The feed bag is on.

The kids went hunting, I wanted to take my youngest son for the youth doe hunt but he said he wanted to go with his brother Tim instead of me   I always took the kids out for that & they would fill their tag. All they saw today was a fox

Did a lot of walking yesterday and now have blisters from trudging around in the waders. It was a really amazing day. Lots of wind for most of the day. The bass were feeding hard and I felt like KVD. Those hungry bass made my arm tired. I even have a bruise on the inner part of my bicep from setting the hook so often( NO B.S.).

Spent most of the afternoon hikin about searchin for fish. Returned to an area I had been thinkin bout while hikin and it was payday. The fish killed my bag of soft plastic toads and I started to get worried without my go to bait of the day. Tried various other styles of soft plastics but fishing slowed and I almost called it a day. Decided to regroup and go grab a snickers bar and check out the local bait shop to see if he had any of those magical toads handy. No toads available so I returned to the car and finished off my snickers and just couldnt bring myself to call it a day so I returned for another go at it.

Back at the lake I sat on my tailgate woderin what should I use? Tied on a 3 inch perch and caught one but kept pulling weeds after that. HMMMM...

Cut the perch from my line and texas-rigged a flappin hog with a 1/4 ounce bullet. Told the fella beside me just a few more casts then I should probably pack it in. It was cast and retrieve with no takers for a bit of time. Then the bite started up again for me. I had the hot hand again and those fish were hungry for my offerin.

I threw out the bait again and on the fall I felt the strike and the line began to tighten. I set the hook and felt something very heavy on the other end. The fish was headin for the dyin cover and I was reelin and hopin it didnt make the weed bed. Began to think I hooked into a pike cause the fish refused to clear water. What was on the end of that line was a fat LMB and the adrenaline kicked in once I saw how big this fish was. Twenty more feet and I would have him in my hands. Oh NO the fish started peeling off more line. The fight ended abruptly after that and I was holdin a beautiful fish in my shakin hands.

While I retrieved the bait from the bass' cavernous mouth I was screaming inside because I left the camera at home. A fella came over to check out the catch and I had him hold the fish while I ran back to the car to grab my celly. Got 2 picks, a measuement and returned the fish to the lake. I forgot I had my scale in my other vest so didnt get a weight. The mouth of that fish was so big I could put both of my hands on the lower jaw with my fingers in its mouth. Was one fat fish.

Sorry had to post again and share my day because its quite rare for me to have such an excellent day. All summer long I fished with fair success but my patience finally paid off and the fishin gods shined upon me for a day I will never forget.

Chris u arrived about a 1/2 hour after that catch. Looked like u were doin quite well out there. Saw ya with the net in one hand and bent rod in the other or was I seein things. was gettin dark by that time.

You were not seein things, I don't use the net very often but when I saw that fish I said nooo wayyy am I gonna be able to grab that cow!! Got the net from the bottom ov the boat & put it in it's holder. Had the fish next to the boat & it said enough ov this & headed for cover, lightened the drag some then SNAPPPPP!!!!  Oh well atleast I didn't have that thing floppin' round in the boat. I can grab most Pike with my hands near their shoulders but when I saw this one I said HOLY CRAP!!!

I would ov had it if it would ov hit on my catfish outfit but nooo it had to take the Striper setup

Glad you had a great day. I just needed to get out in the woods or on the water today & enjoy Mother Nature & try to take some things in that come with life

LOL! Chris has a good sense of balance....don't believe me? Fish with him in a canoe sometime! That lake sure is hard to figure out. Did you see the size of those perch? I don't usually catch more than one in the same area from that lake for some reason.
