wbugger313 -> RE: Arthur (10/3/2008 1:16:46 PM)

just wondering if the stripers are picking up at all now that the we have had much cooler days and nights for about two weeks.

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (10/13/2008 6:14:16 PM)

I caught my first boat wiper this weekend.  Possibly the smallest wiper in the lake though.  Spent most of the day pulling night crawlers through the water with not much response.  Maybe a hit an hour, and all hit behind my back hook.  Any harnesses that I added a stinger hook to, were left alone...  I hate trolling!!!  Sometimes it feels like I'm never going to score.  I mean, it's like...   That old dude, he must have scored 1000 times.  It's just not fair.  I'm never going to score.

Luke 9:23 -> RE: Arthur (10/15/2008 7:50:03 AM)

Sunday October 12th was crusiing by the island by thr dam and saw a lot of heavy splashing on the sandbar from the island (east) to the shore. I am sure it was stripers driving Alewives up on the sandbad and gorging on them.  It was around 6:00.  I didn't fish as I wanted to get out by dark with the Pontoon.

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (10/15/2008 9:09:54 AM)

I saw this same thing a few years ago.  It was at the other island, by the boat rentals.  I was on a rental boat with a friend, and were casting right into it.  Only managed one nice size small mouth though.  I'd imagine once the bait fish are cornered like that, just about any game fish in the area that is big enough, will take advantage.  Was one of the coolest things that I have ever seen.  Would have been nicer if I could have "matched the hatch" though!

I'd imagine the cooler temps should get just about every fish biting a bit more now.

STEELYS MANFISH -> RE: Arthur (10/15/2008 9:37:49 AM)

I saw the same thing 2 days ago. had the little guys fishing for gills by 528. tons of baitfish and the big fish were gorging. the boys did well and caught alot of gills but man that was some serious activity. didnt bring the gear I needed but the boys sure had fun. its funny watching my boys set the hook and play out the little fight. They make it look like something huge is on the other end. even had a couple gills jumping like smallies.shut off around 6 pm.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (10/16/2008 11:35:28 PM)

 Nevermind [sm=icon_cry.gif]. Sorry 'bout that.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (10/21/2008 4:53:37 PM)

 This might be a better report than the last one [sm=fun_84.gif]. Went out with rippinlip yesterday & the footballs were gorgein' the last hr. & a 1/2 ov daylight.

Prob. target Pike & Skies when out from now 'til first ice & inbetween thaws 'til mid. March though. Then Pike & Crappie 'til mid may.

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (10/24/2008 9:02:36 AM)

Finally boated a nice wiper (24").  Got it on a home made jig.  Had another get off.  Also got a smaller one on a crawler harness.  Not much other action, but good to finally get a nice fish from the boat.

Surface temp was around 56 degrees.

luvinbluegills -> RE: Arthur (10/24/2008 11:42:33 AM)

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (10/24/2008 4:04:20 PM)

Thanks for the congrats.  I took one picture with my camera phone, after I got home.  It's a wiper sitting on a garbage bag though...  I left my phone in the car when I was out.  I really need to get a camera for fishing though.

rippinlip -> RE: Arthur (10/27/2008 2:58:23 PM)

Went Sunday. Got a few nice Largemouth. Couldn't find the Stripers. Most of the time was spent fighting the wind.

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (10/27/2008 7:59:14 PM)

I got the old skunkeroo fighting the wind too.

I thought they'd be putting on their feed bag, with the cold front moving in.  I'm guessing that I was a few hours late.  It felt like I was on Lake Erie around noon when we decided to call it quits.

Only saw 3-4 other boats.  I guess we didn't get the memo...

rippinlip -> RE: Arthur (10/28/2008 10:24:48 AM)

Yea, I thought the same. I at least expected a walleye or two.....perfect conditions for them. I had a ton of water in my boat after I pulled the plug at the dock. I was at the dam area and can't help but wonder if I would have done better around 528.

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (10/28/2008 10:39:41 AM)

I spent most of my time on the 422 Road Bed in 10-12 FOW.  I marked a bunch of fish hanging off the edges, but must have had something else on their menu than any of my hooks!  Did see an alewive floating, but didn't act fast enough to grab it.  Also saw some gulls working overhead, but not diving.  The surface was too rough to notice any breaking.

rippinlip -> RE: Arthur (10/29/2008 1:14:22 PM)

Were you on a pontoon boat? I have a 17.5 bass boat. Had two youngins with me.I trolled the roadbed for a pass ot two with no luck. PM me Pork and I'll fill you in on a spot where I seen Stripers jumpin. I would like to try the spot soon before the water gets too cold.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (10/29/2008 1:41:28 PM)

 I just went outside & made a bunch ov fresh snowcones for lunch [sm=icecream.gif] YUMMY!!! Prob. pick nightcrawlers Fri. night [:)]

Hope to get out next week for some Pike but the kids will prob. be archery & trappin' [sm=icon_confused.gif] Hate to go on the boat by myself.

Oh well:;/

rippinlip -> RE: Arthur (10/29/2008 1:58:38 PM)

Call me . We can hook up. I need adult supervision anyway after the last time we went and I tangled my own rod...remember??  Looked like a Three Stooges sketch![sm=fun_84.gif]

Luke 9:23 -> Shenango River handicap access (10/30/2008 5:34:26 PM)

Recently the New Castle News talked about new access areas on the Shenango River near New Castle.  Does anyone know where these may be and how to get there. I would like to wet a line but am unsure of my legs due to Diabetic Neropathy.  Any help would sincerely be appreciated.

startinout -> RE: Shenango River handicap access (10/31/2008 12:01:59 PM)

How's the duck and goose hunting been Crappie?  Thanks again for the hot sticks.  They didn't last long.  I can't go fishing next week, but the following week I may be able to go out some day if the weather stays alright.  I'd like to get my boat out one more time locally before I try the bay up north for steelhead.

crappiefisher -> RE: Shenango River handicap access (10/31/2008 2:47:45 PM)

 Kevin, I rem. it was just after your rod almost got pulled in but the line snapped first. We said man that was a big fish then wonderd why the trollin' motor wouldn't work [sm=anon.gif][sm=anon.gif] when u got those other rods screwed up we just couldn't figure it out [sm=dunno.gif] We had no clue.

Mike,

I want a autograph ov the Bass Pro Shop mag your ugly mug was just in [sm=bgtup.gif] Haven't been out much for waterfowl. Only one I can get to go is a 12 yr. old boy from across the st. & our shootin' has been sub par so far.

Sounds good!!!....lEt mea nO/:>) wEN

Lovgren69 -> RE: Arthur (11/9/2008 7:59:20 PM)

Fished @ Moraine Sat. Nov 8th from about 1 pm until 5 pm.  Weather was half decent although relatively windy; water temperature was 50 degrees.

Launched out of 528 and fished around the bridge area.  Drifted bait (shiners, fatheads, nightcrawlers) without much luck.  Only managed 1 small perch there.  Set up and trolled from 528 bridge up to Nealy's point-trolling a Super shad, #5 shad rap, & reef runner-zero bites and not too many fish marked on finder!

Big surprise of the day came around 4:30 while fishing below point--was drifting bait and girlfriend yelled that she had a big fish on! She tussled with a large fish for about 5 minutes before bringing it to the boat.  I was certain she had a big channel cat on; but boy was I surprised when she pulled a large hybrid strip bass to the boat!!  We snapped a few pictures before releasing it--no official measurements but I would guess the fish was around 25 inches and a healthy 8-9 lbs.  I will try to post a picture once my girlfriend sends me them!

Other surprise of the day was the sighting of a bald eagle.  I didn't know that there were any around here, but I clearly saw one in the area adjacent to Nealy's Point!  He soared overhead and landed in a tree for a few minutes--what an awesome sight, wish I could of gotten some pics of him.

Anyways, all in all not too bad of trip for November.  If the weather permits I might try to keep the boat out and make one last trip up there before the ice comes...
