  Was down with 2 boats for 17 hrs. yesterday [sm=icon_cry.gif] Phil got burnt purdy good & the place was already trashed again along the shore. Can't talk now lost my voice.  U 49 or 50 now? Good luck u old fart.

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (9/2/2008 3:47:04 PM)

How was the catfishing last night?  With the amount of people swimming where ever they felt, 2 times the amount of boats than normal, and the amount of junk food "chumming" the waters.  I'd imagine the cats were loving it!

I did my typical Arthur fishing/picinic holiday.  Got to love the excuse to make it out fishing (with everyone else from Western PA though..).  Got on the lake early, to waste a few hours drifting and trolling the road bed with a bunch of non-rod bending company.  I'm starting to think that is "the place, to tell people to fish..."  Then went off and tried another technique, but only enticed one 15.5" largemouth to take a trip onto my boat.  Same technique got me one last year, but none of my favorite species yet.  After the sun got a little too hot, I headed for some shade.  We found a hiding spot for some small perch and gills.  Not a great day, but from the sounds of most, not too bad.  I've got to agree with PennArtist, those pan fish can definitely save a day.  You know it is bad, when they are no where to be found though.

I've finally decided to start a fishing log for Arthur.  It seemed to make my river fishing much more of a success.  I think that I focus too much on trying to trick the wrong species in conditions that I should be focusing on pulling in other species.  Which, I'd imagine for most, is why this lake gets the Dead Sea tag.  Although trying out new toys and techniques, usually forces me to stray from this.

Here's to some seasonal weather and filling my log with some successful entries!!!

penn_artist -> RE: Arthur (9/2/2008 4:36:31 PM)

Panfish are to be had below the dam. I caught over a hundred today and lost something HUGE on a 6" Shiner(I'm guessing a musky). Two Amish guys were fishing for bass and they had a couple Bluegill on a stringer so any big ones I caught I gave to them and gave them a couple worms and wee hoks to fish with. Seems below the dam the average is about 25 an hour. I haven't kept a fish in about 20 years so we pitch 'em all back.  Rarely will I only target one fish. I don't like fishing but I love catching lol

After Pam and I took out a couple bags of trash from that spot last week. It looks like we never touched anything. Garbage is a massive sore spot with me. I have lost more than one great fishing spot to some pig bastards.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (9/2/2008 7:52:17 PM)

   Tim,

no cattin' for us on the outtin'. We were up in the swamps. We did fish the duck pond for a little & caught bass, perch & gills there. The lake right now is the lowest it has been for a few years & the weeds the worst in that time zone.

Some people that were campin' for the weekend left "their" site a total mess & didn't even put out the fire. My buddy asked me why don't they have garbage cans around the lake? I told him why should they??? Purdy simple take home what u bring. I even found 3 pairs ov ladies undies on the last trash outtin', some hanky pankie is goin' on out there [sm=banana2.gif] u/no;:..

How'd you do on the honkers Monday, crappy?  I was at Cabelas today and was looking for those light decoys you showed to me, but they didn't have them.  I'll have to take a look on the wide world web and see if I can find them.

That banana is some FUNNY stuff!!

I agree it is pretty simple. Take what you bring in. To bad people take it for granted.  The next time there is a scheduled trash pick up day at the park from guys on the forum can someone let me know?

It's running like a top now.  That Stabil works great.  So does Seafoam, but more expensive.  This forum saved me a couple hundred bucks!!!  Thank you all!

I had another issue with the neutral start blocker.  I bought all of the parts, but couldn't figure out how it would go together.  It only stops you from starting the motor in gear.  So, I just need to be careful not to start it in gear.

rapala11 -> RE: Arthur (9/3/2008 9:19:22 AM)

i had my family down there monday.  sure it a beautiful place.  can only imagine it in the spring or fall.  plan to start fishing there real soon.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (9/9/2008 9:07:42 PM)

   Tim,

that's good to know. I'll give it a try on some of my older motors that have good spark but are hard to start.

  Mike,

the guys I was with on that Monday shot over a box of shells. I didn't even take a shot. The birds were not in range if you ask me. Just got back from Cabelas a little bit ago & didn't see 'em there either. Did see 'em on e-bay last week though.

I know some ponds that the birds are usein' but don't want to hunt 'em by myself & just get 3 shots off at a time & not put a good hurtin' on 'em. Headin' out in the morn. with a buddy [sm=gun4.gif].

How did you guys make out up north??

Penn_artist,

the place looked spotless 2 days later and a mess again the next. Prob. just gonna round up some local kids for our next clean-up since you were the only response for the Fish USA Clean-up subject.

Thanks

STEELYS MANFISH -> RE: Arthur (9/10/2008 12:57:26 PM)

hey chris I am  still willing to clean up wit ya just dont want to seem like I bail all the time. let me know when your thinking. WED or Thurs. evening good for me though. Bro-in-laws house almost done wit. Might be bringing the kids for clean-up so I can give the wife some quiet time for homework though if thats ok with u. Have been poison ivy free all summer so this could be their last chance since cooler weather usually keeps them inside unless snow falls.

startinout -> RE: Arthur (9/10/2008 4:24:00 PM)

I wouldn't mind doin it again.  Same thing as last time.  Most any day around dinnertime.  Just give me a couple days warning.  I haven't had a chance to get out yet for geese.  It's been busy since my wife went back to work(teacher).  Hoping to get up to Pyme this Saturday for the morning and get some shooting when they fly off the lake to the fields.  At least it's finally a little cooler.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (9/11/2008 11:21:28 AM)

  Sounds good guys! Next Thurs. ok/lEtT mEa kNo;:k

Deadbolt,

You fishin' from shore or boat? The lake is stocked very/very heavy with Mr. Wiskers.
Almost 80,000 from 98-99 & 160,000 from 02-05. So just in 5 years about 240,000 were put in. We use dead frozen Alwife & smaller gills most ov the time.

startinout -> RE: Arthur (9/11/2008 7:52:52 PM)

How about any day but Thursday?  THat's my wifes open house for school which means I'd have to bring my son, which means he'd be getting poison ivy and probably take a swim.

STEELYS MANFISH -> RE: Arthur (9/12/2008 9:11:04 AM)

how bout wed.

startinout -> RE: Arthur (9/12/2008 9:14:52 PM)

I lied, sounds like my mother in law will be watching the kid Thursday night, so once again, I can do it whenever.  Wednesday or Thursday works for me.  Whichever is best for the most people, I guess.

STEELYS MANFISH -> RE: Arthur (9/13/2008 9:17:35 AM)

sorry man my wife informed me last night my sons open house is wed night for kindergarten. thursday is also bad for me then I work all weekend.

Sounds like a plan to me.

startinout -> RE: Arthur (9/15/2008 10:21:58 PM)

Hey crappie,
What time do you want us to meet up.   5:30 or 6 sound good or would you prefer the sooner the better since it gets dark earlier now?

Wally Eye -> RE: Arthur (9/18/2008 6:34:05 PM)

Crappie, have you been slabbin' lately?  I was out a couple of weeks ago and caught a few small ones under the 528 bridge.  None worth keepin' tho.  Wondering if you've been getting any slabs yet.  Tell Matt I said hi!  Later.

startinout -> RE: Arthur (9/19/2008 4:25:04 PM)

Crappy won't have power till probably tomorrow.

Wally Eye -> RE: Arthur (9/20/2008 2:03:37 PM)

OK, Thanks Much!

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (9/20/2008 9:02:47 PM)

we have power now!!! No he hasn't been fishing much. But my buddy Justin White just competed in the FLW outdoors stren series northern divison tournament at Kerr Lake in North Carolina and placed 8th. So far this year he has entered 3 tournaments and got money in 2 of them. Also he is only 16. So far he is in 19th out of 249 co-anglers in the points race.  I cant wait to talk to him. He lost his cell phone last week, and I haven't congratulated him. I can't wait to go fishing with him when he gets back. He was also supposed to do the butlerbasscasters championship tournament down at Lake Arthur tomorrow, but I dont think he be back. I haven't been fishin much at all. Mainly goose and dove hunting. I will probably go on my boat tomorrow though. I am not sure were the fish are though, it has been a while since I was out there.

 Hi Wally [sm=icon_lol.gif]

I tried out the duck decoys u gave us on Sat. for the first time. My youngest son Greg & a 13 year old young man & I hit 'er for the 1 day youth hunt. We all had a blast & to top it off it was a first ever hunt for the young man [sm=multi.gif]

Have been on some beaut. local waters this month but only took stick/line once to a Sand & Gravel strip pit & caught 2 ov the biggest gills I have ever seen or caught in person with plenty ov Bass too boot in a very short twilight zone on bass baits.

Hope to get & try some ov those waters for fishin' for the freezer sometime. Timmy & Greg did purdy ok yesterday eve. on Bass & Tim bagged a Goose this eve.

U wanna hook up sometime leTt mea nKow/;oAk;kayE?

Thanks for the deaks/

sagebrush -> RE: Arthur (9/27/2008 6:29:25 PM)

How's the hybrid fishin' this time of year?  Anybody catching any?  If so, what type of pattern are they in now, shallow, deep???

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (9/29/2008 9:36:52 AM)

I hit the lake yesterday with a friend.  The strong winds made for a pretty good trolling drift.  Good enough to move blades on harnesses, but not good enough to catch many fish though.  He landed 1 catfish - 8lbs probably 24" or so (right next to an unspecified spot that I had mentioned to another member on another thread...).  We used my scale, but didn't measure it.  Other than that, a few bites.  The wind made it difficult to stay on structure that we attempted to work.

Hopefully be able to answer some of Sagebrush's questions in a few weeks, but not likely...  I have yet to catch a wiper out of Arthur in months other than May or June and only once prior to sunset - all from shore (ditto with walleye).  I'm hoping to break that streak before winter.  Suggestions are welcomed [:)].

luvinbluegills -> RE: Arthur (9/29/2008 12:38:59 PM)

Got up there Saturday to chase panfish and did pretty well once I switched to the fly rod. A guy near me landed 2 Channel cats (one 11 pounds the other about 9) and we saw a few bass.

Wally Eye -> RE: Arthur (9/29/2008 4:32:30 PM)

My Dad had a striper on last week (midweek).  Jigging a sassy shad (rubber minnow) on the bottom.  Caught two decent cats also.  Did not land the striper tho.
