Struckout -> RE: Arthur (8/8/2008 11:07:19 PM)

Was Up at Arthur today for a company picnic, beautiful lake. Didn't take any fishing gear and was wanting to get some info about the lake. I live near the WV stateline in the south so when I get the chance to sneak up there, I'd like to spend the time doing some serious fishing. Seen signs for group camping but is there individual sites for tent camping?

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (8/9/2008 12:52:09 AM)

  Welcome aboard [sm=ani_smiles.gif]!!!

there are some priv. camp sites around the lake. I rem. about 10 or some yrs. ago that they (State Parks) had plans drew up on a very/very/very nice site for campers on the south west side ov the main 528 launch.

Purdy sure a good bit ov $$$$buckaroos were spent on the layout, they were talkin' bout it for some time & even layed out the plans in the local paper, drawlin's & so forth. Never herd any thing from it, like it never exisited in the first place?? , after 2-3 years ov spendin' & plans??? Maybe they just gave up or moved a bunch ov wasted $$ somewhere other?

Drove past the old plan site about 5 -7 times in past 48 hrs. & every time I think to myself , man that should ov been a done deal/:;. It would hurt the local camps, but hey the choice would be ours.

If any buddy would wanna spend a few hrs. some day clean'n' up a few hot spots from shore lett me kno?;: eVEN THOUGH it's a St. Park, don't think the budget is that great for the upkeep ov persons that have no clue about mother nature. I'm gonna try & round/up the FAMILY/Friends for a little outtin' doin' that very soon.

Crappy

the food & drinks/shoes could be on me after at my shack if anybody wanted to show.

Ettiddetedidettiddit by myselve?/;: think it was b/aybe a little longer than the 2-3 yrs. plannin'&spendin' than I first said pos. it was closer 2 4 plus yrs. in the makin'??/;:- beats me really[sm=dunno.gif][sm=dunno.gif][sm=dunno.gif] crapp

If you make it some evening during the week, crappie, I could probably get up and help for a few hours.

Struckout -> RE: Arthur (8/10/2008 10:38:09 AM)

Thanks for the reply. I am hoping to get back up there sometime in September, want to take the family with me so would probably have to be a weekend.

 Sorry
bout the delay gettin' back, but just rem. my passtworld [sm=globe.gif].

Startinout , a week eve. sounds purdy good. I rounded up 3 new local wippersnappers that don't fish (just got one ov 'em to get a lice & give a a try though} If others from the board wanna join in it will be a way to meet & learn the lake a little better. Maybe some time next week around 6:30ish would be good to start on any part ov the lake?? There is alot of shore to cover so it might take a few outin's to cover some miles.

Donny,
glad u made it back from the windy city. I C it didn't change u. Hook up soon.

Some ov the best fishin' is to be had after labor day with very/very/very little pres. & some beaut. nature looks around every weedbed.

   Hey Pork rem post 666???

            Later Gator

Porktown -> RE: Arthur (8/12/2008 8:44:42 AM)

Congrats on 666!

I'll be travelling for work, as always, so no clean up or fishing for me.

Although, should be able to hit the Susquehanna for an evening while I'm out.  I need a new job, that allows far a little more fishing time.

I should have a little more free time after 9/30, although then I just have to clean up the mess from the year end rush...  I hate my job!!!

startinout -> RE: Arthur (8/12/2008 5:53:41 PM)

Any day next week will probably do if we make plans this week.  Let me know when and where and what vehicle to look for, and I'll be there.  I usually put my fishing stuff away come September once the hunting madness begins, but I'm planning on doing more fishing and waterfowl hunting this fall than the usual Archery hunting so the LAKE will get a little more pressure from me, but the fish probably won't. lol.  It figures though that this is the first year I'm gonna try not to Archery hunt my a** off and so far there are a TON of legal bucks and a few giants in my spots instead of the usual tons of scrubbers and a couple wallhangers.  I guess my problems could be worse though.

STEELYS MANFISH -> RE: Arthur (8/12/2008 9:47:27 PM)

hey crappy id be interested in helpin out some and explorin the shorelines. I am not super knowledgeable by any means but however I could help, will do my best.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (8/12/2008 10:44:05 PM)

 Next Thurs. good with you guys?? Any eve. next week works for me. Thinkin' start near the begining of the lake (Barkley Rd.) off rt. 528 then
upper 528 launch, 528 launch plus ISLE area then if we have time hit the Church & the old Rt.422 launch area. Then if we can get together again maybe hit the North shore drive area & then go from there??

Justin,

It's been many years since I fished a good bit of the lake so my knowledge is lackin' also. Dreamcatcher noes/awle thea goulde spots/:;

startinout -> RE: Arthur (8/13/2008 4:43:09 PM)

Thursday works.   Give me a time between now and then.  The earliest that I could be there is probably 4:30 or so, so then or after dinner makes no difference to me.  Just let me know.

STEELYS MANFISH -> RE: Arthur (8/13/2008 5:11:10 PM)

sounds good so far for next thursday for me. was at muddy finger today fishin the pads, could only manage 1 small bass on a senko. did miss a few though. been practicing with the baitcaster. had a overrun and wouldnt u know a bass picked up the worm and I sat there watching my line swim around. tried to set the hook by hand then the line went slack. bummer. another day I suppose.

stopped at barkley today as well, no fish for me. hope to fish with yall.

knightrider1983 -> RE: Arthur (8/14/2008 3:52:05 PM)

Long time listener, first time watcher.  Anyways I have fished Lake Aruthur a couple times but the fishing has been not so good.  Well next week I'm looking to bring some friends up to the lake and I would like to have a chance LOL.  So if anybody could provide some advice for fishing the lake in the afternoon I would appreciate.  Not looking for specific spots (but if you want to tell, who am I to stop u) just a general approach to catching some fish in the dead sea.  Fish I would like to target would be the wipers, any advice on catching some wipers because I have never caught to many in my few times at Moraine.  Are they still chassing the elwives in the shallows in the early evening or are they hitting real late at night ?  Thanks in Advance...

startinout -> RE: Arthur (8/14/2008 4:18:06 PM)

I'd give advise if I had any for this time of year, but I don't.  I've been on a fishless streak since I got back from my Manitoba trip late July.  I'm pretty sure they're not too active in the shallows any more though.  But I could be wrong.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (8/16/2008 1:01:01 AM)

  Is a 5:00 - 5:45 meet up at my place oK with who ever wants to show up?? It's only about 53 sec. give or take a few from Burton Rd. This way we can meet, get a little plans together & bs some in the wait. Who ever is game just PM me what works best for you & some dir.

You never know how much litter or not you can find on any given day there. Depends I guess who fished/partied the day/night/week/month... before on any path along the lake.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (8/16/2008 1:20:08 AM)

I'll give everyone a couple Rapala's that helps out & for the one that can pick the most trash up  6 Rapala's of your choice from what I bring.

Crappy

STEELYS MANFISH -> RE: Arthur (8/18/2008 2:58:50 PM)

hey chris, thursday is still lookin good for me. might not make it until 6 though. I could meet ya at barkley if ya think you will be there by then. later.

pgh_flytier -> RE: Arthur (8/18/2008 3:13:38 PM)

I think the original plans for the park called for a campground at the beginning of the bike path. The building currently used to rent bikes was built as the contact station and there was trailer dump facility across the road. I heard they ran out of money before it could be completed. There is also a lot of opposition to having a campground on the lake. I don't think Pa has opened a new campground in 20 or more years.

gobyking -> RE: Arthur (8/31/2008 1:10:42 AM)

Took the boat out on Friday from 0830 hours to 1400 hours. Caught 2 14" bass on a white spinnerbait with a white colorado blade. They seemed to be in the deeper weedbeds which were hard to see since the water clarity was about 1 foot after the recent rains. Nice day overall to be on the water and very few other boats around. Saw a couple guys trolling the deeper parts of the old roadbed, not sure what they were ater, maybe walleye or musky,didn't see anyone catch anything at all.

Too bad I lost my transmission in my truck on the way back home, gotta work overtime this winter!

carpediem -> RE: Arthur (8/31/2008 8:23:41 AM)

Been so busy with work/business that I've had my boat in storage for the last two years and have not had a chance to get out at all.  Well I finally decided to make some changes so I had the time to do the things I enjoy and I got the boat out and fixed up.  Been on Arthur 5 times in the last couple of weeks and I've managed 1 lousy LM Bass.  I just can't figure this lake out.  I've tried everything...  I bought a map with depth and I try different types of structure, presentation etc...  I troll, I cast, I fish live bait, I drift the RR and creek beds with harnesses.  I've fished daytime, nighttime.  I just can't catch any fish.

Honestly at this point, I'm just downright frustrated.  Don't know what to do...  Fished last night from 3:00 until about 10:30.  Had a couple bites on shiners but didn't land anything.  They actually looked like crappie maybe twice the size of the shiner [sm=angel.gif]

I guess maybe everyone is dealing with this considering the time of year and water temp but I'd think I might just happen into a fish every once in awhile.

Eh well...  Got about a thousand items on my honey-do list for today.  Mayhaps I'll get through them all and drop the boat back in the water this evening.  I suppose the only cure is 100,000 more casts.  I have to learn this lake at some point, right?

rippinlip -> RE: Arthur (8/31/2008 5:07:08 PM)

Don't get frustrated too easily. I been out a few times myself the past week and things are slow there. Tough conditions right now. When the water cools down. they will put the feed bag on. Right now, it's slow.

crappiefisher -> RE: Arthur (8/31/2008 10:26:08 PM)

  Headin' down at 3 am. I should be hittin' it a lot more 'till she freezes.

lEtT u kno " if "/"wen" they r hammerin'... 4 us.

penn_artist -> RE: Arthur (8/31/2008 11:28:36 PM)

If you  get to frustrated there is a good fall back plan just below the spill way. I haven't seen Bluegill fishing like that since I was kid slaying them on farm ponds. I caught a massive sucker down there the other day and had a medium sized  Tiger Musky cruise by. Thank God for Bluegills they save many a fishing streak

rippinlip -> RE: Arthur (9/2/2008 10:09:49 AM)

Seen your van and trailer at the boat launch. I only managed a couple Bass on a weedless frog in the lilly pads.
