Pulled in the nicest smallie I ever got on a tail hook last night about 12:30. It was out of the water 3 times and was a lot of fun

! Unfortunately for the fish, his tail got a little ripped up

! Got my only striper (the only other fish of the night) on the next cast the opposite direction! Fished til 2 and called it quits as the action died.

TRANSAM, i see tons of people on kayaks fishing. Seen some pretty pricey ones too. Seems like a cool way to fish.

Hobie's are very nice, I have heard if you fish a lot of shallow water they can be a pain, other than that they are great.. I fish from a Liquid Logic Manta Ray which is now made by Native. It's a lot of fun and fun to customize I have a fish finder ect. on it. After getting lost in the fog last night a GPS is gonna be added next..

Eveywhere I take it to the Yough, Potomac, Allegheny, Erie, and to the ocean when ever I can. There is no where that I wouldn,t take it except for class 4 and up white water. If I can be of any help let me know..

Fished Arhur last friday night. Got out a little after 8, weather looked beautiful, 9:30 came around and bam we were in the mist of a pretty good storm. It got a little hairy on the way back but we made it, somehow. Headed back out around 11pm and saw a good bit of bait, and saw some splashes. I ended up with 2 lousy catfish and about a 3.5 lb largemouth. We only had one other hit, bait disapeared around 1:30 so we called it quits. I am still pretty new to the striper fishing, this was my first time trying it in about 5 years so, if anyone wants to offer some general advice it would be greatly appreciated. Once again, I not asking for specific locations, just maybe general depths and structure to look for, and maybe some presentation tips.

They really don't relate much to structure, except for for breaks from deep water ( In Arthur, that's 10' + ) to much shallower water. I target water less than 5' generally. Shallow flats near main lake points, and around the few islands are good areas. Shallow coves CAN be, but tend to get over run with weeds by this time. The fish are often still there, but getting a lure across the top, clean, can be nearly impossible.

You might very well have been in what SHOULD have been the right spot. This has been a tough year ( and friday in particular ) for me. Plenty of bait, in typically productive spots, but no numbers, or consistent numbers of active fish. A FEW spots have seen this, but are being heavily fished ( I can usually avoid the crowds, and still find plenty ). I don't THINK it's a population issue, but rather that they are just "disorganized", with no real pattern that I've been able to find this year.

As for presentation. Minnow imitations ( Bomber long A's, floating Rapalas, etc. ) worked fast enough to get good action, but slow enough to keep them on to making a V on the surface ). A Zara Spook, or pooping lure, worked at moderate to fast speed can be good. Folks USED to hit them with big, black Jitter Bugs, but I have tried them in recent years.

Alwives, or Gizzard Shad, held close to the surface, if you want to bait fish. I've heard that Bluegills, and Crayfish can be good as well.

Yumpin Yimminy did it get froggy saturday. I was motoring toward a point, and as I got within 10-20 yards of it, it disappeared into a cloud, and I was surrounded by white. Ended up getting two, and missing one, but when you heard a pop, it sounded as though it could be anywhere. Very interesting fishing, AND motoring. A very lonesome feeling as well, when you were the only one in the boat. Though at times, I doubt you could actually SEE each other, even if there were two of you. It WAS, THAT foggy.

Sorry the PM function is not working for me ( my end, not theirs ).

I would say, hit it hard the next two weeks if you can. It will be as prime as it gets (this season) in my opinion. It typically starts to wind down, by mid july.

It's been purdy primetime for the last month if you had the time for 'em. This colder spell on the way (should) make for a little later/longer bite, then 10 - 1 after it gets back in the 80's.

after the bait moves out stick it out a while longer. Most mornin's after most everyone is gone except a few catfishermen if any & very few baitfish around I'll catch some bigger fish that wern't satisfied gorgein' theirself yet. I've done all my night fishin' for 'em in the dark wadein' so far this year but will be jumpin' out ov the boats in boots in about a week.

Timmy just callled from the lake & has 2 bears about 20 yrds. away from his boat. He said one is around 500 lbs. & the other 300 lbs. He left the camera on the table

I picked up 3 Birds a L/M & a nice cat & had to keep a 23"er that didn't make it. Climbed over alot of deadfalls to get to 'em. The bears were gone by the time Matt showed up. The old lady & Greg were on the boat with Tim.

That fog was crazy on Saturday, i was out in the yak and got lost in the fog for hours started at Mcdaniels and ended up at bear run.. Time to get that Gps

Bears! Oh my. That is a shame he did not have his camera. I,ve seen alot of wildlife there , but never a bear. Thats cool!

White X Striped Bass (Hybrid), I just call 'em Birds for short. Head'n out in about 1.5 hrs. with my youngest son & the two others have been down there since 5:30.

If you have any of those 'ol Storm Thinfin lures, give them a try in chrome and hold on!

I have rarely seen a cold front turn ON the fishing...

Hey all - headed up last night with a buddy. Fished from 9:30 to around 12. Ton of activity on top of the water, unfortunately between the two of us we only managed 1 large mouth. This is the first time that I ever gave the striper bite a try. Not sure if it was me, the couple showers that came through, or the fishing. Couple gents left around 10:30. Said they had a couple of small cats and a couple small large mouth. It was really frustrating to hear that many fish, and a few sounded quite large, to be hitting all around, but nothing taking the bait. Used mainly stick baits. The 1 fish that was caught took a hot n tot. I am hoping to head up again soon. I am land locked, but if anyone is going to be heading up and wouldn't mind sharing some advice on techniques and what ever else, and wouldn't mind sharing the lake for an evening, I would be more than willing to accept any advice.

I think I was up there the same night steel4me was. (Tues night). Showers were cold and annoying. The alewives just started to warm up and the showers came through. After the rain quit it took about 30-45min for everything to turn back on. Once it did the "cannonball shooting' commenced. No bites, none at all. My buddy did manage to foul hook a fat gizzard that was probably 10". We thought about hookin him and using him for bait...

Just like steel4me said, It is so frustrating to hear all that splashin and crashin and not hook up. My techniques arent working. Gotta try somethin different.

PS, anyone hear the news story on TV about the "sting" operation up at the lake? I guess they made a couple arrests on tues night.
