Greg had BIGG MOMMA on but he couldn't handle her after a coulpe min.

Hey Everyone, first time on. My dad caught a bunch of stripers up in Muddy Creek today. He didn't say exactly where. He was crappie fishin' and caught all on light tackle. Biggest was 22", most 15"-16".

Hey Crappiefisher, I work with Matt, I've been talking to him lately. HI MATT! Talked to your other son one day out at the lake, the one that caught the big carp. Just wanted to say hi. Also how do I find all of your fish pics on here? Are they just spread out thru the forum? Thanks, Wally.

TransAm,

alot of the Pike make their late winter runs a few miles up the creek to spawn. We catch them in just about any shallow cove or bay with catails around in the spring.

Bob,

that's good to see a bunch of smaller ones around. Hope the F.C. can get some left overs again this year to stock. That was Timmy you talked to. He told Matt about it. We didn't post pics. on here 'till last summer when
I told Tim it would be ok.

i thought that's why they put in the new plaza at 422?? Rumor is they're planning a scrolling message board that says....the hybrids are eating now!!!!

Manfish,

I've seen the night bite start as early as mid April, or as late as the end of May. So how do you answer this question, "Any news on when the stripers will be hitting." ? IF the weather holds, I suspect it will be the first, maybe second week of May, but you never know. The fish sure aren't going to TELL you. So you can either wait until SOMEONE tells you that they HAVE started, or you can start making a few trips, and BE THERE when they do.

No Steely, it's truly shame that people don't take the time to check this stuff out on their own, because if they did, they'd be a hell of alot better fishermen. Bottom line, more time on the water, more exposure to the conditions, gives you an open mind and a better approach to fishing. Nobody is trying to set anyone straight, we're skirting the question cause the real question is...WHY aren't you trying to be the one who finds out first, and crushes them>?>? They're fish, they have mannerisms. find them out and put the puzzle together, and you will catch them. Sitting on your computer for three weeks until someone says..I caught 4 hybrids on the 422 roadbed at 11:15pm on a storm wigglewart in shad color just won't teach you anything nor will it give you experience. Go catch a fish and learn something

Don't get worked up over the wise answers. From my short time on this site I've noticed that anyone asking questions with specific details involved usually results in smart*ss answers,,oh and having an opinion that differs from the rest will get you ganged up on instantly.

AMEN !!! I'll be the first to help anyone to put another fish in the boat & another smile on a face. But, I'll be d*mned if my literal hundreds of hours a year on the water go to those too lazy to do it for themselves. Thank you Dealinsteel, Spoonchucker & those on this board who aren't afraid to just go fishing just for the love of it.

Tonight on my way home from work, gas is $3.39 in Cranberry, $3.29 at the new Pilot, and $3.45 everywhere at the Grove City exit where I get off...so I like the new Pilot!

As for the stripers, I am getting a trailor hitch for the Avalon so I can drag the boat to Cranberry, work 1-10pm and hit the lake on my way home. Without having to drive the V-10 gas guzzler 85 miles roundtrip to chase those bastards! Hope they start soon!

One year I decided to head up to the lake without calling ahead to O'Donnell's to find out if the ice was off the water. Cabin Fever was gettin' to me and all. I got there and there was a 2' open space between the shore and the ice all around the lake. Otherwise, it was completely coveed. Ugh. I seriously considered tryign to walk out on the ice and fish a hole after these guys cam off the water and told me where they had been, but wisdom took over and defeated adrenaline.

So, after driving 45 minutes I figured I better get somethign out of the deal, so I pulled out my park map and my lake map, and I drove around scouting every single access point I could find, and correlated a bunch of them with underwater structure.

The result? I now have spots to choose according to date, weather conditions, daylight, species sought... getting iced out paid off big time. I also figured out why you can cast every inch of a seemingly featureless shoreline and find a 3 foot area where ALL the fish are stacked. Homework pays.

Now if only I had a boat...

Thanks Tom and luvin, you guys make such good points... it should be easy for people to understand you get rewarded when you put in the work! I forgot that we are a society based on convenience. I meant everything I said, and trust me, it might even be more valuable than actually telling you where the fish are in the long run. If someone offered you knowledge or convenience, and you were interested in the long run scheme of things, which would you choose??? That can determine the type of fisherman you are!!! Think about it.

Went out the other day to muddy creek. Didnt manage to hook any pike, but saw more then a handful of them....apparently it was a slow day all around, but it was fun trying. Thanks for the tips Crappie!

when you guys talk about muddy creek, are you talking about that part of the lake by the dam or the actual creek itself? I have never fished up that side of the lake and am totally unfamiliar, I usually just launch the canoe around mcdanels and paddle around from there. thanks IC

I am off tomorrow and might scout out the area. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am not looking for your honeyhole or favorite bait, just a general on that area of the lake and fishing it from shore.

thanks crappiefisher. I am happy to report to u I finally caught my first northern. 22 incher, small I realize but once he saw me off he went. nice little fight out of him. what a blast. sent him back to be caught another day. had a fellar take a photo on my phone but forgot to save it, bummer.

Yeah the 5 year old outfished me but I did pull out an 17 inch L/M right as that wind picked up.

U all make great points but nobody was asking what,where, or how, just if.

I also agree to search and scout and put in the research which makes fishing that much more fun..

Hey iron city, the muddy creek finger is close to the 528 bridge. u can grab a map of the lake at the main office on the north shore. u can also print out a regular map of the park to show the lake without the depth chart at moraine's website.
