Ran into quite a few trappers this week (Beaver), some with foot holds. Today was the last day for them. Hope they are all pulled so not to worry about wadein'  as much. Saw lots of beaver around right before dark. Callin' for gusts of wind up to & over 40 mph tomarrow with rain so thinkin if we go will hit the wind blown areas.

Thanks Marty.

I thought maybe it was for beavers, but then I thought you had to use conniber traps for beavers?  Guess I was wrong.  I did see some swimming around there.

Kevin we only kept the first 6 pike of the year. Greg took a nap tonight  & my dad & I snuck out late this evening & slammed a bunch of 13"-16" slabs after dark. Greg wants my dad to fry them now.

Anyway, I'll be hopefully be picking your guys brains on a couple of things, just can't do it now, don't want the boss coming in and catch me talking about fishing already. Thanks in advance.

   Jimmy,

Tim has been gettin 'em on 1/8th oz. jigs with a curlytail & I have been using very sm. ice jigs tipped with Berkley Trout Worms. They seem to be a little deeper during the day & after dark in 1'-3' of water on a old
tire bed.

Kevin,

a big piece of a Basswood feel in the yard from the wind yesterday & I sprained my arm tryin' to flip it for the chainsaw. It was very painful even tryin' to do the dishes today. Tim got his drivers permit today. I doubt I'll be able to cast for Pike for a couple days but will try for some crappie for a bit.

Splitshot,

not much for the kids to do up this way so try & take them out as much as I can. My father was not a fisherman or hunter so didn't spend much time with him growin up. Left the boys at the lake last night becauce they wouldn't load the boat up before it got dark. Told them they could walk home.

went out today for 3 hours with my 5 year old son. not a single bite but managed to mostly keep his interest on that floating bobber and hoping to get something. He saw several sharks today, so that was cool. it was great to spend some time with him today. tried for some pike again. mostly tried buzzbaits with and without trailors. also tried a few swimbaits. in 2 days managed one crappie which hit on the 3 inch berkely gulp. he was small though. better days coming, can feel it!!!

Started at around 1pm today.  Pretty slow and fairly wet!  2 small craps, 1 nice bass, and the biggest channel I have ever caught on 4lb test with an ultra light rod...FUN!!!  All fish caught in 4-5 fow on minnows.  Might try again in the morning...looks like it is going to be a heck of a nice weekend!

That seems to be the dealio with that lake. You gotta keep goin till you get a day when they're bitin. Then you can have a field day. Channel cats are fun.... I caught one on a popper while Striper fishing last year.

Was out yesterday from 10:30 am. 'til 2:30 pm. & caught a bunch of Crappie & some nice Pike. Went back out around 6:00 pm. 'til 9:45 in a downpour & got cold & soaked. The Pike & Biggg Crappie were purdy hungry though. All & all it was the best day/night fishin it this year for me. Saved a couple Crappie for Greg (fish eater) & the last Pike of the night for a farm pond that has too many gills. Tim & my buddie are headin' out around 1:00 today.

Kevin, my arm is feelin' alittle better. The old ladie asked how I could go fishin' with it but not work around here? Told her it was good therapy. If you wanna try it this eve. or tomarrow eve. give me a call. Tim trapped a pile of Crayfish out of the bait tank so look out Byrds latter this week.

Hey Crappie,
How deep are you catching the crappies now?  I fished a little bit in the upper muddy creek arm today and didn't catch squat, although I did more exploring than fishing once again.

Just wadein' 290 - 320 deg. through black muck NW shore rd. beds, brush, wood & weeds. Have you tried Trout Cove yet on the right side? Used to do very good early season there in years past.

Didn't make it out today/night.

Timmy, take your time finding a boat! It's a big purchase. Be smart about it. Call me at home this week if you want to go opening day.

Nice seeing you spoonchucker & steelhead. My dad just fried up some pike from late winter, and they tasted great. This is the first year we tried them from the lake. Here is a picture of one c/r from late winter.
