I'd hit it this week. The top water nite bite for byrds is commin to a end 'til fall. Two of my boys & I went down tonight & caught 7. It is purdy easy gettin the ones still hangin around with not so many alewive to contend with.
The biggest I caught tonight on ultra light was 25" & didn't fight near as good with the warmer water. They all swam off ok when released though. 10:45 'til 12:40 was the ticket. The L/M were very active in that time zone also.

Time for cattin, groundfroggin & turtlelin I supose???

Fish seem to have a 10 to 12 body lengths per second
speed limit. Tuna might make 20 lengths per second. so big
fish can usually swim faster than small fish.

Did alright last night.  A lot more misses than catches, but we did hook a decent amount of fish.  Definitely seems like it's coming to an end.  Time, I guess, for another species.

Just wondering if the guy next to the dam that was fishing with the fly rod last night was reading this.  Just wondering what the pictures were of.  Seems like we saw that flash a LOT.

I might try the swamp thing, we'll see,  I'm not so sure though, I'm fat duud.  Soft marshy areas can be tough for fat duuds, we sink a little deeper. I haven't been on the ice since Sunday,  it was still 8 inches thick then in old 422 arm.   As far as I know my brother was on muddy creek again yesterday and made it back off again, not really sure though, haven't talked to him, lol.

Just HADDA remind me of them Snappers, dincha?? Enough times of takin' one step and having one leg thigh deep in mud and the other still where I started has taught me a lot about were NOT to wade!

  Yeah I remember you postin last year about a certian area that turned to a muck bottom. I've pulled out a few older guys that were stuck in the mud while wadein' with a rope. That black muck stinks like a SEPTIC SYSTEM.  Anyone wanna goe?/ lETt me n/O;

het fellas, have been reading your posts. want to do some fishing over by muddy creek after ice-out. will be fishing from barkley. is wading beneficial and safe in that area or is it a mud pit. just wanted to know since i mostly fish from shore. any info will help, i notice yall dont like to give out fishing spots very easily, not asking for that. this will be my second year at the lake. Had a blast last summer slamming bucketmouths out there. Is my best chance of hooking some northern in the muddy creek area or would u recommend somewhere else?

You can wade this area, although some parts do have the black mud.  Just walk slowly!  Take a ride down Barkley and pull off where you can and hike a bit before you set up cam.  I'm sure the launching areas can be productive too, if you are confined to the cleared areas.  I've kayaked back into the area, and definitely some nice looking fishing spots.  It is a bit shallow though, so depends on what you are looking to catch.

Oh yeah, try walking on the old vegetation.  The roots and veggies seem to hold the ground together a bit more than the bare areas.

thanks for the reply porktown. have been wanting to wade this area since last summer but was unsure. My goal is to wade across to get close enough to the old railbed out there. I understand the L/M LOVE this area. I have been able to pull some nice fish out of this area. I have even heard of a couple guys pulling big musky out even though its so shallow. This even occurred late in the summer. Im taking a stab at trying to catch a northern, and hoping this area will be a spawning site for them through march and april. Unsure though never fished for them before but looks like fun. tight lines to u.

you will not be able to wade across to the old RR bed.  there is a trail that you can take that will get you there.  get a park map http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/moraine/moraine_mini.pdf.  i've waded from the berkley rd access to the duck pond without too much problems, just be smart and don't go too deep.  now i use a kayak and can fish it very well anywhere.

That's close to where I have pulled guys out stuck in the mud. You will not be able to wade to the old R.R.B. from shore. Wear chest waders not hip boots in the area. That water is very muddy/murky with very little visabilty & there are some spots you will be knee deep then chest high for ONE step. Sortta like steppin off the 2nd. step of a ladder thinkin' you was gonna be on the ground   Alot "MOST" of the Pike will be a few miles from the lake to spawn in some swamps.

thanks for the info fellas. will let yall know how it was once I get out there. If u happen to see some dumbass stuck in the muck, lend a hand though. will probably venture the trail off burton road over to the opp. side then see if I can get in somewhere over there to run those tracks. tight lines, relax, and enjoy a homebrew.

Took two young fella's out for some swamp crick fishin from 4 - 6:30 today. We all got stuck in the muck and fell in a number of times. The toothy critters are miles up from the lake already. Kept a 3 man limit with many let go. Will not keep another this season. Had a few nice ones break me off on ultra-light.

I'm gett'n too old for this swamp thing.

another beautiful fish!!! do u mind if I ask what type of set-up your using. I am having much difficulty using a baitcasting reel.birdnests galore. I am a relatively new angler! was planning on using my spinning reel. purchased 50lb braid by power pro and plan to tie 9 inch steel leader. Is this ok? am wanting to use a husky jerk or a 6 inch plastic swimbait in an alewife color. would u bend your barbs down and possibly remove the middle treble on the husky? If I am lucky enough to hook and land one what do I need to know so as not to harm the fish when I release if anything at all. thanks, any info would help.
